What I find amazing about this scientific correction to the vertical whale story is the proof that this whale had laid at the bottom of the ocean floor; one of the deepest basins also. Considering that dead whales float and tend to wash ashore.

This sounds like one of the fossils from the Messel pit. The didn't settle into quicksand. The settled, as did the many other fossils from that particular dig, in the anaerobic depths of a lake.

Go back and reread what's been posted about that find. The whale fossilized in position after death. Tectonic activity in the area then folded the strata in which the whale fossil was contained. The strata is consistent all around the fossil.
