He was commenting about how welfare programs had destroyed the strong family structures that used to be seen among African Americans, and he believed that's why so many African Americans are in poverty today. Looks more like he's blaming the government for widespread poverty in African American communities, not claiming that African Americans are somehow inferior...

He should have stuck to his own welfare issues, instead of dragging the 'negro' into it.

We know what he said, and we know who still defends him.

So, which bothers you more? If you please, you can leave a little bit of exposition about why

  1. The Bureau of Land Management pointing sniper rifles at unarmed citizens. Abducting people for no reason. Etc.
  2. Cliven Bundy's use of antiquated words and condescending but well-meaning racial rhetoric

Again, another poorly thought out poll. You should have at least put a choice for neither.

Bedford, I doubt that one stupid comment by an old man with minimal social skills doesn't make him a racist. Likewise I don't think some of the stupid statements you have made in the past makes you a bigot.

I've found people to be too quick to label people racist, sexist, etc. and people really need to calm down.

It is the only issue. Had he paid his taxes we would not be discussing any of this.

You do realize that the accusation was made by Senator Harry Reid, and Mr. Bundy is claiming he actually did pay his taxes. So either the IRS violated Federal Law AGAIN and provided the confidential tax information of a private citizen to Harry Reid, or Senator Reid is making false allegations AGAIN.

Which is it?

Taxes? I thought this was about grazing fees - nothing to do with the IRS or confidentiality. Bundy lost in court, which is public record.

It wouldn't have had anything to do with taxes if Harry Reid hadn't started claiming Bundy didn't pay his taxes.

Since Bedford, decided to drag Harry Reid's accusations into the mix, I think it was only fair for me to point out the problem with those claims.

I don't see his comments as racist at all. I think it is pretty clear blacks in America are better off as slaves.

I think this article covers this topic fairly well.

Slavery & welfare: Why there is no comparison | Southern Nationalist Network

I seriously hope you're not endorsing slavery... I the practice of slavery was an evil that was so pervasive that it took a Civil War to put an end to it.

I don't think the welfare programs were originally intended to cause harm, but that's what they are causing and I think modern politicians want these programs kept in place because it means that they have a captive voting base.

I do not endorse slavery nor what is currently happening now. I do, however, think it is clear that one system is better than the other, although both are horrible.

The first question is pure hyperbole, second question is nothing more than excusing racism which I find more repugnant than the ignorant mans words.

I take it you mean the first option? It's not pure hyperbole. It's an accurate description of what happened. Before protesters from outside came along, the BLM was aiming sniper rifles at the Bundys. Why the BLM needs snipers to begin with, I don't know. Also, one of the Bundy's was abducted and imprisoned by the government under ambiguous charges.

The second is not an excuse for anything; it is a description of what the man did. He spoke about racial issues in a well meaning but condescending way, from an antiquated Southern view.

Par for the course, and quite contrary to how KK always comes around to tell us whenever anyone that doesn't agree with him is being a racist.

Interesting. The guy who hates universal suffrage thinks blacks are better off as slaves.

No thank you.

I'm black and I'll take possible welfare and possible prosperity over a whipped back and family sold to someone else.

Who were the unarmed intimidated citizens?

» Federal Snipers Train Guns on Family For Filming Cattle Alex Jones' Infowars: There's a war on for your mind!

Federal snipers with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) trained guns on members of a family yesterday after they dared to stop and take video footage of cattle outside the bounds of a designated “First Amendment Area,” before arresting one of the men for non-compliance.

Unbelievable: Family Faces Sniper Rifles For Holding Camera

The incident took place at a Clark County ranch currently in dispute by its owner and the federal government. Though rancher Cliven Bundy contends the land is his by birthright, the Bureau of Land Management insists it is now the property of the government. It has levied substantial fees against Bundy for the right to use the land and, taking a stand against federal overreach, he has refused to pay.

Bundy claims he is willing to face whatever punishment he must to protect his property and the rights of American citizens.

BLM officers are now in the process of corralling his cattle and, to deal with Bundy supporters who visit the scene, have set up two ‘First Amendment areas’ within which free speech is permitted. Such limitations to the constitutional rights of Americans are becoming frustratingly common and, in this case, resulted in a family being targeted by snipers and at least one individual facing criminal charges.

Local reports indicate members of the landowner’s family stopped along a state highway to film the cattle roundup. Even though the BLM contends the disputed land being filmed is off-limits, Ryan Bundy explained he and his family “were on the state highway, not even off of the right-of-way.”

The unarmed family was quickly surrounded by 11 BLM response vehicles carrying twice as many federal agents.

“They also had four snipers on the hill above us all trained on us,” Ryan Bundy added. “We were doing nothing besides filming the area.”

Except what you're agreeing with is totally wrong. What I wrote actually happened. They were aiming sniper rifles at people just for filming. What you're writing about me here is borderline slander.

I was agreeing with the characterization of the second part of your poll.

2. Cliven Bundy's use of antiquated words and condescending but well-meaning racial rhetoric

As:

Sorry for any ambiguity.

Grow up.

This boils down to which is more important.

On the one hand we have a Federal Agency sent 200 armed agents to harass a rancher and his family, pointed guns at unarmed protestors, and the situation could have easily turned into a massacre. Then on the other hand we have some stupidly worded comments from an old man that may or may not indicate racism...

I think it is foolish to be more concerned about some stupid comments, when the Federal Government is threatening American Citizens with guns.

I agree. I'm racially slav(e) and I'd take the same thing as you.

That said, the thread topic is, which bothers you more: the government aiming sniper rifles at unarmed civilians, or a Racist Old Man's stupid rant.

I don't really care about the bundy situation, I consider it the government impounding some cattle.

I'm just finding it interesting that some people need to excuse racism of the guy because their politics agrees with his.

I don't think he really has an excuse for his racism. It's bad.

That said, which is worse, in your opinion: Racist Old Dude or federal government sniping and intimidating unarmed citizens with cameras?
