  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

did god really do this to my family

my sisters house burned down the other night. she has 6 kids and she's also pregnant and they all got out safely. well the night before the fire happened, my mom warned my sister about something that caused the fire and that if she didn't remove it, the house will get on fire and my sister ignored her and her house burned down. my mom said that god did this. that it was a warning from god. and my mom said next time they wont get out. i don't know what god my mom follows but i know that god wouldn't do that. my 2 year old niece was crying and saying she wanted her room back and my 11 year old niece said that she was wanting to kill herself because everything her papaw who died gave her got burned. everything was burned. nothing was left. they're currently living with me and my parents. but my mom said god burned their house down because of foolishness. because my sister ignored what god was warning her about and so god burned their house down. i don't understand why god would want to destroy someones life and memories. is my mom right? i just don't see god doing this. god is love. not hate. the devil is hate.

I'm curious, does your mom often make predictions like this?

If you put a lit candle under the window drapes and the drapes catch on fire, did God do that? You have the cause of the fire, and that it was not removed is the reason for the fire.

No, God did not burn the house down. I don't understand why people say such hurtful & ridiculous things.

I don't know. He certainly can use, or even send, tragedy to accomplish His purposes.

Whether or not it happened as a result of His doing, I don't know, but I do know that, for whatever reason it happened, He is sovereign over it

My uncle ran into a burning house to save his family, all seven died in the fire. It was the saddest day of my life.

Would you have rather it have been some random thing that just happened? How is it that anyone could have trust in a god like that?

i don't understand why god would want to destroy someones life and memories.

I don't think it is something that He would want, necessarily. When God allowed the death of the youngest child of the person whom I love most among worldly things, it was the most painful thing in the world for him and his family; yet he later stated that God's sovereignty was a great source of comfort to him--to know that his child did not die because of some thing that God didn't have any control over, that it was meant for something--even though it was something he could not possibly understand could be anything good and that he could only understand it as a source of the most bitterest pain--yet, he trusted that God loved him, and that he loved God, and that God works all things to good for those that love Him, no matter what they may experience in life.

If God gave her the information on how to avoid the fire, then He was trying to protect, not to destroy.

People blame God for a lot of things; but God tends to work through people who are willing to listen, instead of dominating every action on this earth. He steps back like the parent of a teenager, and lets us learn how to take responsibility... giving tips and assistance, but not doing everything that happens.

Natural causes have natural consequences -- frayed wiring, turpentine fumes near oily rags... these are the causes we need to expect. It takes a lot to keep a house going, especially when young children require constant attention.

If people had followed through on God's advice, then the change could have been made, and people could have lived safely. It is sad to hear that someone also placed blame on the home owners for not listening -- how could they have known for sure. We tend to act on concrete evidence.

Out of a terrible experience, God can still turn things around and bring good things out of the ashes.

Romans 8:28
God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

Sorry to hear about that tragedy. I hope it will be reassuring to people that God cared enough about the family to warn them this was a potential risk.

The first time people sinned it was over a lie--is God keeping something good from you? You cannot trust God, was the implication.

The same lie is heard today. God is keeping you from a house. God wanted something bad to happen to you ... these are commonplace lies.

We aren't in living in paradise.

Much good took place too--no one died in this particular fire. It may seem like God is at fault, but what about when God grieves with you?
