  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hooray!!

:clap::thumbsup:

I think you'd like it a lot - how did you hear about it, by the way? Not certain if I told you on it already or if you heard on it from another. Either way, many people who say they didn't like the book did so due to not really understanding Eastern thought or having stereotypes of what Christian thought from an Eastern perspective looked like. And I so appreciated how Hieromonk Damascene explains the Orthodox Christian view of ancient religions evident in Christ the Eternal Tao and in his approach to the Tao Teh Ching:

For an excellent review on the issue, one can go to Book Review: Christ the Eternal Tao - Sacred Connections

I greatly appreciate the ways that the author was about avoiding the common pitfalls of religious syncretism - for Christ the Eternal Tao shows Lao Tzu’s Tao Teh Ching as a foreshadowing of what would be revealed by Christ, and Lao Tzu himself as a Far-Eastern prophet of the Incarnate God.

Again, I think you'd really enjoy the read :)

Thanks, I'll read that review on my lunch break. :)

I think you were the first person to mention the book and then it was recommended to me on /r/Christianity. Seeing the scope of Christianity around the world is making me consider Christianity again, knowing that I don't have to fit in a prescribed social mold that is avidly WASP-centric is pretty refreshing.

I know lunch is long over for ya - but hoping it was a good read..

Good to know - one of the worst reasons to not investigate Christianity is to do so assuming that one dominant cultural presentation of it is the equivalent of how it always was ....but of course, studying the person of Christ/who He is is far more important than seeing how others presented Him

Greg I will check out your suggestion. It sort of sounds like a Miyazaki movie before Miyazaki. I will let you know what I think. Plus I have something thoughts on Korra after getting current awhile ago. :)
Seeing if you ever had the chance to check out the anime I recommended - the one dealing with music?

I just had a lot of anime passed to me.

Anyone familiar with Kino's Journey, Summer Wars, Control, or Silent Mobius?

Kino's Journey - Yes good.
Silent Mobius - Wow takes me back a few years! Yes, also good!

I cannot comment on the others.

Gxg, I will get back to you soon!

Ahaha sorry, this forum only seems to make me angry nowadays so I haven't been posting as much.

I've been watching Kill la Kill which is phenomenal, Girls und Panzer which is better than it sounds and PSYCHO-PASS which is looking to be of the quality of Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex which is definitely one of my favorite animes of all time. I am excited.

I'm also pumped for book 3 of Korra. :D

10 of the 13 episodes of Korra's third book were reportedly complete back in November of 2013. I can't imagine it's going to be much longer for the premier.
I do hope they will show different fighting styles based on the elements....just as they showed differing spiritual abilities that came with certain bending capabilities.

It's still amazing to see the ways the bending styles have such connection to real life fighting styles:

Cool to know you've been enjoying those animes - they do sound very interesting...

Was wondering, however, if you ever checked out the anime that I sent you and that you asked me about...
I'm also pumped for book 3 of Korra. :D
Likewise - It seems like it'll be a very subtle season to tackle...

More than understand with being frustrated with the forum and taking a break - gotta do what you gotta do. And glad you're enjoying the animes you noted to check out the anime that I told you on when you asked for recommendations - the one that was based on music (as noted here). Seriously, I think you'd appreciate it.

And with Korra, I am definitely excited. I do wonder what will go down but it seems promising from what I've heard:)

Yeah I still need to check out your recommendations, my backlog is large but I am getting to it.

This forum is no longer offering me anything in the way of real discussion or helping me answer my questions. I was biasing towards Christianity for awhile but the hostility and intensity of this place reminds me too much of the past, no thanks! I don't know what my icon should be now, probably Agnostic. But thanks for your concern! :)

Some things worth getting to do take a LOT of time :)

I'd hope, based on discussions within this specific thread on Christianity, that you didn't adopt the mindset of a system being not valid or worth taking up because of people doing things in the name of it which went counter to it - like not using money due to the fact that there were counterfeit dollar bills that were given to them/got them in trouble instead of learning to realize the real thing.....

Yes, unfortunately...as one noted best in the past:

d7af54c5dc8f105bd19860d17715b09c.jpg

That said, that doesn't mean one discounts a concept because of others proclaiming it -as what matters is the founder. Tying it back with the OP topic (for humor) - just as it is with something such as not dismissing bending because of corrupt benders in the Avatar Universe or those who used it for harm, so it is with Christ and Christianity. If you don't know what the system is about and are seeking to see the variety within it (as you were doing), you don't dismiss it because others from a bad variation of it bother you...

And there are many noting the issue of how you have to stay focused on the founder if really seeking to know what's true.

One deals with the founder of the system they're looking into - and if dealing with people in it who are frustrating, one should remember how people are people many times

Real-Relationships-Arent-Perfect.jpg

People are not perfect, of course, but perfection was never the standard for the system and whether or not it's true (just as it is with all other systems). But I can understand where you're coming from with the frustration at others - if you'd like, you can email me any time to discuss more on it since it's often better to change the venue of where you do your searching rather than giving up the search due to being stuck at a specific venue.

Icon wise, it seems you'd probably be best described as a Deist based on your comments and others - but again, that's based on what I've seen.

But in all of it, I hope one would consider Christ in what He was about and truly investigate Him for who He is (as there are MANY logical reasons for it and it is truly the most logical when seeing how the world works, IMHO)....and no one else did what He did, in light of how the early church understood so clearly the abject horror of Jesus’ salvific act that it correctly appropriated Isaiah 53 as a description of that deed - and thus, is worthy of real study

3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. 9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. 10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. (Isa 53:3-10 KJV)

Not a problem - hoping to hear on your message soon....and to be clear, it was not a distraction.

My apologies - as I didn't know my box was full. But it's clear now - so please resend it ....

I was thinking you'd send it to my email rather than on the forum itself here - but it's cool.

I know what you mean. It was when I explored Jesus more, just as Jesus and not as the Christian messiah that I kinda got past my negative feelings towards Christianity. I saw in him the 'holy' figure that goes through the ages like Krishna and Buddha. He is greatly misunderstood by 90% of his followers. The only aspect of Christianity where I see any semblance of what Jesus taught is in the mystical aspects of Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy.
