Why is it really important to think, oh God already knows if I'm going to hell or not. Well, sure, but do YOU know if you are going to hell or not when you die?

No you don't. Well, yes, if you decide to continiously deny God, than yes. The point is YOU do not know the future, you are in the present and that's all you know. You have the free will to decide what you want.

People are never born to go to hell.

Omniscience MEANS all knowing, His knowledge is vast, He knows everything.

God created hell. Hell is an eternal punishment for finite crimes called sin. I'm not arguing about freewill and whether he already knows who's going to hell and who's not. I'm arguing that he screwed up big time by creating hell in the first place. The fact that he created it for fallen angels and not humans is even worse because, according to the mythology, human souls still go there anyway.

That is not justice. That is sadism.

If he was't a villain, he could think of far more effective and humane ways to reprimand his creation if he felt in necessary. Alas, the character is far dumber than most reasonable modern people. That's the point I'm making.

Yes, creating narratives to make sense of the world and our lives is what we do as humans. It's how are minds work, for some reason. When each of us thinks of our own lives we automatically try to make it fit a narrative structure. In fact, getting post traumatic stress victims to write down their traumatic experiences after a suitable time period has passed is actually an example of using this as a method of dealing with incidents we can't cope with, or that we don't want to have in our own life narrative. By attempting to put them in some sort of context it helps people deal with the episode.

Similarly I suspect, to make this point directly relevant to this forum, fundamental creationists will have fitted all their life experiences into a narrative that depends on their god existing and the bible being true. When shown evidence that their beliefs don't match reality, it isn't just a case for them of saying "hey-ho, I was wrong" it's a case of having to completely tear up everything they thought they knew about themselves and their place in the world and start over again. Literally every experience they have had will have to be viewed afresh in the context of a completely different life narrative. No wonder they dig their heels in.
