  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You've never seen a lynx or a bobcat? They're not much bigger, and they's surely not domesticated.

Size isn't the only difference. But if you like, I could mention goldfish, dogs, domestic chickens and their varieties, or how about HIV, which evolves so fast that medicine can't keep up?

Wow.

September 2006

Let me guess, AV?

EDIT: oh how very right I was:

Has this been addressed yet?

Yes AV, it was addressed, many times over. All of those discoveries were done in spite of those scientists being creationists (much like the crusades happening in spite of the Bible). None of their science is related to creationism.

Creation science has done nothing since there is no creation science.

Technically you are right, creation is a foundational doctrine of Christian theism. Science, since the Scientific Revolution, has been the investigation of unknown phenomenon in nature:

Rule 1: We are to admit no more causes of natural things than such as are both true and sufficient to explain their appearances.

Rule 2: Therefore to the same natural effects we must, as far as possible, assign the same causes.

Rule 3: The qualities of bodies, which admit neither intensification nor remission of degrees, and which are found to belong to all bodies within the reach of our experiments, are to be esteemed the universal qualities of all bodies whatsoever.

Rule 4: In experimental philosophy we are to look upon propositions inferred by general induction from phenomena as accurately or very nearly true, not withstanding any contrary hypothesis that may be imagined, till such time as other phenomena occur, by which they may either be made more accurate, or liable to exceptions.

(Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica, Isaac Newton)

Since creation is a miracle and not a natural phenomenon Creationism wouldn't be a science. It's actually an evidential apologetics (defense) effort by Christian scientists against the unprovoked and shameless attacks of Darwinians on Christian theism.

What is that evidence?

Theism is only attacked when it tries to say it is the truth, if it was the truth it would not be called a faith.

Evolution is a fact and religions are beliefs, evolution is backed up by evidence religions are backed up by words.
If someone want's to live in fantasyland that's OK just as long as they don't try and say their fantasyland is true.

I think you should qualify that with " for everyone else."
I took it as read that it would be true for him and if he said it was true he would mean for everyone,
then again you could be right so please include 'for everyone else' in my post.

He was fired because he refused to do the work. If he had put aside his beliefs and did the work his PI asked him to, there would have been no cause for termination.
This is true as far as I can tell. He did not want to work on projects that involved evolution. Actually his complaint boggles my mind. What else did he expect? Looks like someone did not read the big print when he applied for the job.

The commission [the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination] dismissed his complaint earlier this year. The commission said Abraham was terminated because his request not to work on evolutionary aspects of the project would be challenging for Woods Hole because the research was based on evolutionary theories.

You have two groups. One claims there is no God and teaches that the Bible is mythology and lies. The other reaffirms the veracity of the Scriptures and reminds us that God is Lord of the universe.
Where do all the Christians that believe in God and accept the evidence for evolution fit in?

In the absence of God, neither position has consequence. However, God IS real. The rejection of His word and the sacrifice of His Son has profound and serious consequences. Who, then, is working FOR mankind and who is working to the DETRIMENT of mankind?
See above question. BTW, this is known as the fallacy of the False Dilemma or Excluded Middle.

No evolution doctrine ever prevented a man from going to hell.
Why would it? The theory of evolution has nothing to say one way or another about God.

No evangelical Christian ever lost their soul by believing too strongly in the Lord's word.
I would argue that when that belief leads to lying about others it certainly put their soul in danger.

Who, then, is helping mankind?
Scientifically? Scientists help mankind.

Spiritually? Some religions help mankind.
