  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What have you understood about the charcater of The Ten Commandments?? (2)

I've never had any law promoter tell me where God told Gentiles to observe the Sabbath, they keep playing find the hat with the rabbit in it.

Good point!

This is all that was ever commanded of the Gentiles by Law abiding believer Jews.

Acts 15:19-20

“It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God. Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood.

No mention of them keeping the Sabbath. SDA's are primarily Gentiles, who believed.

sabbath for Jews and Gentiles

I believe both Jews and Gentiles need to observe the Sabbath because it was given at Creation to Adam and Eve. I've written a book called "Nehemiah the Sabbath Reformer" which has a deep spiritual lesson about how God's people need to reform the Sabbath.

God Bless

But in all honesty, the 'law promoter' has continually based his argument on violating the Law. I see this as a contradiction impossible to reconcile in this dimension ;)

A belief in violating the Law in order to promote the law begs the question of where their belief is placed. Decoder rings to the Pen of Liability are necessary at this juncture.

I believe in following righteousness, goodness, truth, faith, love, hope. We dont need to understand all of pauls mysteries, all we need to do is obey the commandments given by the Lord and his apostles that are written in the New Testament, never give up even when we fail, and get filled with the spirit, get that love, joy and peace in our heart, mind and soul, humbling ourselves with a contrite heart and a spirit of lowly meekness, submitting, kind, gentle, controlling ourselves and our tongue. Seeking to be what God loves. This takes effort, prayer and the battle is in the mind, thinking good and lovely thoughts, warring against evil thoughts and feelings like a soldier, warring against things such as impure thoughts, covetousness and our own own pride and vanity.

Oh how sweet it is, to walk in this pilgrims way, leaning on the everlasting arms. Oh how bright the path grows day by day. At the cross at the cross, where i first saw the light and the burden of my heart rolled away, it was there by faith that i received my sight, now i am happy all the day. Amazing Grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me, twas grace that taught my heart to fear, was grace my fears relieved. :)

James1:12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. 18 Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.
Qualities Needed in Trials

19 So then,[a] my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; 20 for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

God did not save you because you are a nice person. He saved you to train you to become a king someday under his Kingship. That takes knowledge and understanding.

2 Peter 3:18
But continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Philippians 1:9
And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in
knowledge and depth of insight.

By the way.... No ordinary pew-sitting believer can read Paul for himself and walk away with great understanding. Paul's teachings require that we learn from highly qualified pastor-teachers. One who is a serious student of God's Word.

God only gives certain gifts to certain men. If you do not have the gift? Most of us will not. You can read Paul's epistles and will feel like a deer caught in the headlights.

Even Peter admitted that Paul's letter contain truths that were hard for him to grasp. Don't give up on Paul. You need to find a good teacher, that's all.

Grace and peace...

Just did a study on this. The commandments show love. Our main duty as believers isn't to follow the law perfectly, it's to love God with all our heart, mind and soul and love our neighbor as well. Then once you do those 2 things, following the commandments are a byproduct. That shows that God and the law are love.

We also follow the law out of love and in respect to God; not to be saved.

With all do respect, i know we are all sinners and my heart is contrite, so much so that i weep sometimes. I dont need a teacher my friend but i do listen to truth wherever its found. You show me a man who understands all mysteries and i'll show you a man teaching fundamentals.

1 John 2:27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.

If that means, what you erroneously say it does? Then why would we need to be taught about that truth in the first place?

But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.

That passage speaks concerning about when you are taught by a pastor teacher (in their case, it was John), you do not need a man to teach you how to think about what you were just taught. It was given as a warning against divisiveness.

Look at verse 26!

26 I am writing these things to you about
those who are trying to lead you astray.

That passage was given to avoid conflicts with others who would demand equal time after the message to try to tell you how to interpret the message that was given by the teacher. In that sense, we do not need anyone to tell us how to think about a given message if we are Spirit filled.

Think about it? Why would we need to be taught about that passage, if we have no need for any man to teach us? We should just know it, if that were the case!

Ironically, you were taught that passage by means of a man. It was John who wrote it down.

This is the funny part. And, why did you just try to teach 1 John 2:27 how to think? If he does not need someone to tell him how to think?

You just contradicted your own advice on him not needing anyone to tell him how to think, by you teaching him how to think!

 it all gets more interesting if you can keep your sense of humor about you!

There are many teachers. But, there should only be a few if God's will were being done by men.

2 Timothy 4:3
For the time will come when people will not put
up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires,
they will gather around them a great number of teachers
to say what their itching ears want to hear.

We have a great number of teachers today.. all with contrary points of view on many issues. Yet? If God's will were done? We would only have a few.. sound teachers. Not many. Only a few.

James 3:1

My brethren, let not many of you become teachers,
knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.

Paul warned that there will be a great number of teachers, all competing to see who's flesh they can please amongst the carnal Christians. James tells us that we should only have a few good teachers if God had his way with us.

Jesus warned about the great number of teachers. They are they broad and wide road that most believers will travel. The selections to please the carnal believer's flesh will be "broad and wide." Something for everybody! Out the great number, only a few will be teaching sound doctrine.

Matthew 7:13-15

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road
that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate
and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing,
but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.

Notice how Jesus followed up by warning them against false prophets? Jesus was just speaking about a great body of false teachings (broad and wide) that will be offered to believers vs a very narrow choice for the ones who will be sound. And, that these ones who find the good will face pressures, that those who are out to please their egos and flesh will not face.

And.. Jesus was not saying only a few get save as some assume that passage was speaking about. He was speaking to believers. Jesus was saying that only a few out of all the many believers will find the way that leads to life.

But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

"Life more abundantly," Jesus said he came to give freely to all who believe. As we can see today... very few believers are really happy. Very few have an abundance of life. Most have an abundance of something other. Just like Jesus said it would happen.

So you will see those theologians arguing, each pitching their appeal to try to reach the carnally minded believer in hope of making contact with their particular ego's desire.

2 Timothy 4:3
For the time will come when people will not put
up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires,
they will gather around them a great number of teachers
to say what their itching ears want to hear.

That is why we see such a great number of denominations today! The approaches they offer are broad and wide.

Listen friend, a teacher reiterates the words in scripture but the spirit teaches, that's what it means. John is saying dont listen to these folks who are trying to lead you astray, instead listen to Jesus words and his apostles (who were given the authority to teach Jesus commands.). How can John "teach" us that we don't need a teacher? Hes just saying abide in Christs words and the spirit will teach you.

You are not teaching me anything i don't already know, i agree we should avoid teachers and study the NT ourself. Not that we cannot learn from others but we dont need to have a man teach us, that's dangerous.

I believe we can help each other learn by group cooperation because we are all falible but together we make a body, but a teachers job is primarily preaching the word which we can and should read for our self. If we blindly follow a fallible teacher we will fall into error, we should study for ourself and also be quick to listen as James says.

James 1:22-25

New King James Version (NKJV)

22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

Not to go on and derail but let me say this, ive learned from others but not from their opinions most of the time, ive instead learned from the scripture they posted. It gets me when folks want commentary because thats sometimes fallible at best, just give me the scripture and a few words of commentary, the Spirit will do the teaching.

I love that I am save by Grace through Faith and that not of myself but a gift from God. Not of any works that I may boast. For it is in Christ that I find I am completely accepted and being changed day to day and even though my flesh may be dying My Spirit lives within Him. For I am hidden in Christ my King and know that my redeemer lives and He loves me with an ever lasting Love that no one can ever seperate me from. He is faithful to every promise He has given me and the only one to be trusted. :)
