  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you believe that Genghis Khan united all the tribes of Northeast Asia, conquered most all of Eurasia, and is the founding father of Mongolia? Or is it just a delusion?
Why do you people insist on using physical examples such as 747s in a junkyard and compare them to supernatural claims, Genghis Khan existed no one knows if God exists because there is no way to tell?

No it's not, now what?
Christians in Nigeria are still killing gays and burning witches, but then again that's Christian morality which is not the best morality in the world is it?

Ginger please provide sources for your claims. I have some that show that Christian's are being killed in Nigeria. Please read these links.

I'm not talking about God. I am talking about the written eyewitness history in the first five books of the bible.

Why do you take the history of Genghis Khan as acceptable but not the history of Israel?

You clearly do not know the meaning of the term "eye witness". Even according to fundamental Christian scholars who believe your myth the first book clearly is not an eye witness account.

So God wasn't there when he created? Jesus was not there?

Were the people who recorded the history of Genghis Khan there? Or are they a myth? Is Genghis Khan and the rest of history a myth?

Be consistent now....

God is not the one that wrote the Bible. And odds are your God was not there.

No one has claimed that the accounts of Genghis Khan are eyewitness accounts. Can't you think consistently in even one short post?

Once again the reason that Genghis Khan is not thought to be a myth is because of multiple sources of his feats. Plus there is physical evidence of his existence. You cannot say the same for your beliefs.

If you want more just type 'burning witches in Africa' into google.

This would happen in the US if the authorities turned a blind eye, the only thing stopping Christians from carrying out this kind of thing in the US are the police, a Christian nut job is a Christian nut job no matter where they live.

This makes me angry on two counts. The first is when anyone is killed in this way and especially children it breaks my heart for them. Secondly, that you claim that these are "Christians". Two out of three of your links didn't mention Christians at all, just that there was a pastor involved. Pastor of what? The one that did mention Christians was obviously not following Christ. Christians are even trying to get attention on these horrendous acts.

"Any Christian would look at the situation that is going on here and just be absolutely outraged that they were using the teachings of Jesus Christ to exploit and abuse innocent children," says Mr Foxcroft whose expose of what he describes as "an absolute scandal" will be screened in a Channel 4 documentary on Wednesday.

From your site.

This is exactly how things begin, some weirdo cult claiming to be Christian does acts against the faith and the whole body of Christ is accused. This is serious and should not be spread by anyone. Shame on you! How do you feel this is any better than what you claim about creationists that lie? Are you free to perpetrate accusations against a group of people that have nothing to do with what is happening there and who are not even Christians as far as I can tell. It seems to be cult like and extortionists. This saddens me on all counts. :(

The whole purpose of the design of this study, was the immediate reaction to the stimuli and the reaction was indeed immediate, which led them to believe the judgement of an immoral act was hard wired into the brain through evolution. Makes perfect sense in the light of what the study showing, since groups of people can not evolve and survive as well without this reaction.

Emotional responses are then only those which have evolved in your opinion?

Do you believe we have free will?

But those are Christians. You are failing by using the "No true Scotsman fallacy". Just because you don't like those particular Christians does not mean that they are not Christians.

But this is your (collective) problem Once......because of two major factors...

1. The scriptures upon which your religion is based are so vague and contradictory, various Christian sects down through the ages have been able to easily define what 'true' Christianity is for them....its why there are >30,000 different 'flavours' of Christianity, some holding very similar beliefs, but others that are worlds apart. Who's to say which, if ANY, are correct...?

2. The very problem which you have said that troubles you....namely, the acts of violence and discrimination which your god is purported to have commanded or committed, which are difficult to explain away.....this has left the door open for all kinds of horrendous cruelty in the last 2000 years, enacted 'in the name of God'.........if your god sets the example, its a little rich pointing the finger at those who follow suit...........in fact, the only way such people can be criticised is by using the yardstick of HUMAN morality....!

I will grant you I did not look too closely at the links I posted because I searched for witches being burnt,
who burns witches? Christians, so as they came up I posted them.

Your flavour of Christianity is based on the bible just like the thousands of others out there,
they all take their lead from your bible, how they interpret it is up to them, if it didn't exist people would not die.

I know that religions are a blight on humanity, if they did not exist people would think more and believe less,
one day it will be so, people will grow up and religions hopefully will be consigned to posterity.

If God wasn't there to create the Universe, then what is your alternative? I would love to hear it. I will await with great anticipation. There is this great phrase coming from science lately saying "The universe from nothing" but in interviews they seem to say "Well it wasn't actually nothing, there was energy". So where do you think this energy came from? what made it unstable? what caused all the laws in our Universe to be great for life? Why did it create the elements for life anyway? or do you believe that life is just a byproduct? Someone said in a post that we can't prove God, but personally I think we will get pretty damn close to it. In fact, quantum theory is already on the verge of realising there is a consciousness at work across the Universe. Did you know that nothing makes sense in the quantum world, but if you assume the Universe is nothing more than a giant virtual reality machine, all the mathematics start to fall into place beautifully. The quantum field appears to be a huge field of endless possibilities or outcomes. I think science will eventually discover without a doubt that a consciousness is behind everything, controlling it. Shame we can't be having this discussion in a hundred years time because I think the discussion would be very different.

Why rely on interviews meant for laymen? What does the actual literature and research say?

In fact, quantum theory is already on the verge of realising there is a consciousness at work across the Universe.

Please, cite one - just one - paper that actual posits such a thing.

Did you know that nothing makes sense in the quantum world, but if you assume the Universe is nothing more than a giant virtual reality machine, all the mathematics start to fall into place beautifully.

I seem to remember you making this claim before. I also remember you not preventing any research to support it.

Methinks the lady doth protest too much.....that second article mentions more than just "pastor". It also speaks of "exorcism" and the fact that the boy was locked up in "church"......perhaps you missed those...? Anyway, here's a more definitive reference...
