  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Although I guess we could have a house with three wise men set up and next to it a manger with shepherds :)

Luke 2:15-16 KJV

And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

Probably have to figure on more like about 20 or 30 of those guys on camels. Considering the length of the trip, their importance (servants and attendants), and the armed guards they would have most certainly had, carrying all that loot... they likely had a huge caravan.

Matthew 2:11, "and going into the house they saw the child (paidion) with Mary His mother, and they fell down and worshipped Him" Luke 2:16, "and they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby (brephos) laying in a manger".

In Matthew 2, it was wise men (priest or court advisers) who had come from afar in search of the One born King of the Jews. They came into the house where the child was. In Luke 2, it was shepherds in the fields that were already in the region (shepherds were despised in the culture and not allowed to give testimony in courts...sort of like Jesus appearing to the women after His resurrection...by using those who people despised made it even more astonishing towards the truth). Matthew shared the wise men with their expensive gifts to show that God is worth everything man has no matter the cost. Luke used the shepherds to show that God uses what man considers the weak and useless to show His power. Matthew doesn't mention the shepherds just as Luke doesn't mention the wise men, but both complement one another. As a matter of fact, when the wise men came seeking, Herod didn't even know that Jesus had been born. When the wise men didn't return to Herod, this is when he decreed for all male children up to two be killed. Shepherds and wise men are two different category of people and are used to show God's greatness in the things He does for His Own glory. Tradition is nothing compared to scripture. An open heart to scripture is an open spirit to hear God not man.

Of course their could have been three since their were three gifts. The symbolism of the three and the manger with the shepards makes for nice biblical art.

Right, but to affirm that there were three is simply based on unfounded assumption.

Here's a fun one- how many angels at the tomb?
What did Jesus ride on when he entered Jerusalem?

Which came first- plants and animals or man?

hmm the tomb well there was two I think, but then there were a few with Jesus wasn't there.

2. he rode a donkey that fulfilled the prophecy.

3. plants came first even before the sun.

I got a question, how were plants watered at first?

Well according to Genesis light came before plants so possible that light?

That is Gods light, while i have no doubt it is better than the sun. It is taught in the baptist church, and I am talking about The Bible colleges which train ministers is it was days. Planets can go a day with out sun light light.

This is speculation but about Gods light in the new earth that is the light which lights the world and there is no darkness. Is it possible the sun burned out? It talks about the sun become as black as (something) cloth name escapes me.

Depends on which account. It's one or two :)

Depends - donkey or donkey AND colt :)

3. plants came first even before the sun.
Not according to the other creation account (Genesis 2).

What timeline does the Bible appear to indicate for the age of Jesus when the wisemen visited?

a) Whilst He was in the manger (birth)
b) older than birth-2 years old
c)other

I don't know the age but your right they were in a cottage not a manger as taught.

Correct!

Matthew 2:11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh

Matthew 2:16
When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under

According to this translation NIV Jesus was out of the manger and in a 'house'. Herod had ordered to kill all boys in Bethlehem 2 years and under so it is reasonable to assume Jesus was visited by the wisemen between birth and 2 years old, not necessarily at birth. :)

Not according to the other creation account (Genesis 2).

The church says this about it, that what heaven and earth refer to is before there was land, or when God first called forth Land. It is literally talking about the day where God divided the heavens and the earth.

We know there were planets and fruit tree in Eden, for Adam was told from the very start what he might eat of. The church says before the rains came underground springs watered the vegetation.

The first part of Gen is a day by day, Gen 2 deals with man. There had to be something for the animals to eat as well man could not have possibly cultivated that much food.
