I'm a little confused about this passage on a website I like using (from Guidelines for the Nativity Fast | Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese

So you shouldn't consult your spiritual father about whether and how you should fast?
Hi D+C,

I'm sure you already know this, but just as a reminder: When you see a list like the one you quoted from:

Do Not Fast

between December 25 and January 5 (even on Wednesdays and Fridays);
if you are pregnant or nursing a newborn;
during serious illness;
without prayer;
without alms-giving;
according to your own will without guidance from your spiritual father.
What that means, is that you apply the header of the list to each line below, like:

Do Not Fast between December 25 and January 5 (even on Wednesdays and Fridays);
Do Not Fast if you are pregnant or nursing a newborn;
Do Not Fast during serious illness;
Do Not Fast without prayer;
Do Not Fast without alms-giving;
Do Not Fast according to your own will without guidance from your spiritual father.
