  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is this great honor given to Gentiles?

OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First Peter 2:8
. 9But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY

Hosea 1:6
6 And she conceived again, and bare a daughter. And God said unto him, Call her name Loruhamah: for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel; but I will utterly take them away.
7 But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by the Lord their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen.
8 Now when she had weaned Loruhamah, she conceived, and bare a son.
9 Then said God, Call his name Loammi: for ye are not my people, and I will not be your God.
10 Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God.

They obtained no mercy.

1st Peter quotes the promise given to the forsaken children of Israel.

So why do people claim that this NEW CHOSEN RACE, ROYAL PRIESTHOOD is speaking of gentiles.

Clearly, the promise is made to Israel.

Is Peter wrong?

This is a very hard question, I have never really liked the subject because I want to be biased in another way.

But this promise spoken in Hosea to Israel is spoken in 1st Peter, in Romans, Galatians I believe, and elsewhere.

It is always that same promise that Hosea prophesied about the future of the kingdom of Ephraim otherwise known as Israel or, '' Joseph.''

Are gentiles really what 1st Peter says?

It says a lot.

This is based on a false premise. The Scriptures are in opposition to your premise.

Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Gal 3:29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise.

You keep insisting that Jews and Gentiles still exist in Christ. That is not so. Judaism was made obsolete. This is God's work. Stop interpreting the New Testament by the Old. The reverse is proper interpretation. Christ is the seed and the fulfillment of the promise made to Abraham. Salvation is in a Person not a people.

God's plan eternal is to have fellowship with one people. The Eden relationship which was the original plan will be consummated with the New Earth and the New Jerusalem.

If what you say is true, then why did the Jewish believers continue keeping the law till they died?

Why did Paul go out of his way to fulfill the law to prove that he himself kept the law, and also to prove that liars were lying when they claimed that he was teaching Jews not to keep the law?

Why did the disciples and believers in Christ keep attending the Temple services, and why did sacrifices continue and, why did Paul involve himself in the continuation of sacrifices?

If there is no difference between Jew and gentile, then why did the Jew continue in the law and the gentile did not?

And why is God coming back specifically for the Jewish people who have been persecuted for 2000 years?

The prophets say that God is coming to punish every nation who has been against the Jews of Judah.

You say that Judaism was made obsolete, but what did Jesus say?

'' I did not come to do away with the law and the prophets, Those who don't keep the least of the commandments and who teach people not to keep the commandments will be the least in the kingdom of heaven.

And those who keep the least of the commandments and teach others to keep the law will be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.,

Now I wonder which of these you fall under?

HMMM.

The two witnesses of Revelation are those who keep God's commandments and who have the testimony of Jesus.

I don't suppose you will be one of them.

When I read the question within the box where you click on your choice, it says: Are gentiles the new chosen race, the New Royal Priesthood?

The way I see it, the wording is too close to and can come across as: Are gentiles the new master race, the New Royal Priesthood? Of course that wouldn't ring all to well in anybody's ear here, be they MJ or even atheist.

From my understanding THE gospel isn't about race, it's about the will of God.

Matt 12:48 But he replied to the man who told him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?”
Matt 12:49 And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers!
Matt 12:50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

Blood doesn't enter into my understanding.

I see my self a as a servant to an orthodox Jew, as if he was the brethren of Christ himself.

But I don't question the blood of a Jew who knows he's a Jew.

I see a Jew as a person who doesn't believe in Jesus, who has been persecuted for being a Jew, and remaining the law of Moses.

I don't see blood making a orthodox Jew, although many would.

But then we have these discussions from more than two places about gentiles being a royal priesthood, a chosen RACE, a Holy Nation. A people called out to God.

Is that wording wrong?

And is this a new thing?

If suddenly they obtained a royal priesthood, and called a chosen race, isn't this a new thing, or is it an old thing?

Israel is the master race, The kings of the nations and the wealth of the nations will come to their feet bowing as they lay down their wealth.

The law will proceed from them alone, and they will rule the nations with an iron fist.

Kinda seems like a master race to me.

The weakest shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, like the angel who stands before the Lord of Hosts.

Master race?

Yup.

Is 1st Peter not speaking to Gentiles?

Is 1st Peter CLEARLY quoting the promise given to Israel?

Is 1st Peter speaking only to Jews?

Is 1st Peter just wrong if he is speaking to gentiles who were not God's people?

What is the answer?

Speaking about Israel the northern kingdom in quoting Hosea.

Strangers and aliens, because they are living among another people in another land, rather than among their own people in their own land.

Where does it say "gentiles" are a royal priesthood, etc?

What translation are you using?

Speaking about Israel the northern kingdom in quoting Hosea.

True, But it also says he is speaking to gentiles , aliens, strangers.

My point is that gentiles are grafted through Ephraim.

At any rate, the promise is for Ephraim.

It's the same quote Romans uses in speaking about gentiles, using the promise of Ephraim.

1 Peter 2:11 Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.
2:12 Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.

What I read in 1 Peter 2 is that the scattered Israelites (northern kingdom - according to the passage quoted from Hosea) are "sojourners and exiles" and they are to keep their conduct among the Gentiles honorable.

I could read it the same way speaking to gentiles keeping their conduct in from of gentiles.

Romans 9 shows the exact same promise to Ephraim in speaking about gentiles also, who were not a people but became his people.

It's two groups of people. "...when they speak against you..."

"They" being Gentiles and "you" being the sojourning exiles, or northern kingdom Israelites.

What makes you think Paul is referring to Ephraim?

Because Paul clearly quotes the promise to Ephraim spoken by Hosea and he tells us he is quoting Hosea.

AS Hosea says:
Romans 9

Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?
25 As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.
26 And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.

Hosea 2:23 Ephraim being sown into the nations.
23 And I will sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God.

God cursing Israel, but having mercy on Judah.

5 And it shall come to pass at that day, that I will break the bow of Israel, in the valley of Jezreel.

Hosea 3
5 Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the Lord their God, and David their king; and shall fear the Lord and his goodness in the latter days.

Among the gentiles

Hosea
Israel is swallowed up: now shall they be among the Gentiles as a vessel wherein is no pleasure.
9 For they are gone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone by himself: Ephraim hath hired lovers.
10 Yea, though they have hired among the nations, now will I gather them, and they shall sorrow a little for the burden of the king of princes.
11 Because Ephraim hath made many altars to sin, altars shall be unto him to sin.
12 I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing.

Here is Peter speaking to all Christians and to gentiles, he quotes Hosea.

9But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

He tells all Christians to act accordingly and not like the gentiles, because these new gentile believers were no longer gentiles, but citizens of Israel.

I say that this speech is to gentiles who had joined the family of Jews, no longer being gentiles, no longer supposed to acked as gentiles in their old Pagan worship.

Are you saying this speech is not to me?

And if you say that is for me, you are saying that I fall under the promise of Ephraim.

The Lord is Good
1Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, 2As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: 3If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

The Living Stone
(Isaiah 28:14-22; 1 Corinthians 3:10-15)

4To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, 5Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
7Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
8And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
9But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 10Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
11Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; 12Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

That was already fulfilled. Paul is using Hosea to include Gentiles(non children of Israel)
