  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Demons can delay prayers

"Daniel 10:12-13

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

12 “Don’t be afraid, Daniel,” he said to me, “for from the first day that you purposed to understand and to humble yourself before your God, your prayers were heard. I have come because of your prayers. 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia opposed me for 21 days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me after I had been left there with the kings of Persia. "

Make sure you are consantly on guard. For a answer to a prayer can be held up by demons.

In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for three full weeks. 3 I didn’t eat any rich food, no meat or wine entered my mouth, and I didn’t put any oil on my body until the three weeks were over. 4 On the twenty-fourth day of the first month,[a] as I was standing on the bank of the great river, the Tigris, 5 I looked up, and there was a man dressed in linen, with a belt of gold from Uphaz[b] around his waist. 6 His body was like topaz,[c] his face like the brilliance of lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and feet like the gleam of polished bronze, and the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude.
7 Only I, Daniel, saw the vision. The men who were with me did not see it, but a great terror fell on them, and they ran and hid. 8 I was left alone, looking at this great vision. No strength was left in me; my face grew deathly pale,[d] and I was powerless. 9 I heard the words he said, and when I heard them I fell into a deep sleep,[e] with my face to the ground.
Angelic Conflict

10 Suddenly, a hand touched me and raised me to my hands and knees. 11 He said to me, “Daniel, you are a man treasured by God. Understand the words that I’m saying to you. Stand on your feet, for I have now been sent to you.” After he said this to me, I stood trembling.
14 Now I have come to help you understand what will happen to your people in the last days, for the vision refers to those days.”
15 While he was saying these words to me, I turned my face toward the ground and was speechless. 16 Suddenly one with human likeness touched my lips. I opened my mouth and said to the one standing in front of me, “My lord, because of the vision, anguish overwhelms me and I am powerless. 17 How can someone like me, your servant,[f] speak with someone like you, my lord? Now I have no strength, and there is no breath in me.”
18 Then the one with human likeness touched me again and strengthened me. 19 He said, “Don’t be afraid, you who are[g] treasured by God. Peace to you; be very strong!”
As he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.”
20 He said, “Do you know why I’ve come to you? I must return at once to fight against the prince of Persia, and when I leave, the prince of Greece will come. 21 No one has the courage to support me against them except Michael, your prince. However, I will tell you what is recorded in the book of truth.

I read the whole chapter...still dont see it. I do understand that the word "prince" can be understood as "angel," but from the way I read it, the messenger simply had things to take care of in Persia before coming to Daniel.

Moral of that is, all things work out in God's timing. :) Verse 21 tells me that angels can have differing opinions though.

Let me ask this, if Daniel was "on his guard" as you suggest to us, what difference would that have made?

It shows that demons are a real threat and if they can slow up an angel bringing a message from God they can do more to trip us up. The devil can take the seeds sown into good earth if we cut ourselfs off from Christ.

Why was Daniel mourning?

Doesn't answer the question...what would have changed if Daniel had been "on his guard"

The more I read it, the more I think the messenger is actually Christ.

Had he been on guard he would not have gotten upset about the war but would have trusted in God. He might have caused others to be cut off from Christ during this period. Paul also warns about causing others to loose their salvation.

Do you not believe in spiritual warfare and the warnings about Satan in the Bible?

Absolutely...but I don't think this is an example of it.

We only do what it is in our nature to do. That said, he mourned for exactly the same amount of time that the messenger was held up...coincidence? No. As you can infer, he was mourning because the messenger was held up, he had no knowledge of the war at the time he was mourning since he had not received the revelation yet. His spirit was troubled, but it was due to an event he had no knowledge about until later...very cool stuff!

btw, it's lose salvation, not loose salvation. :)

Lose vs Loose

Yes, except I don't think it was a lowly demon that held up the angel - it was most likely a fallen angelic spirit in human form. Demons aren't a match for angels; they are the spiritual offspring of human/angel relationships (when they die, they become restless spirits seeking to possess a body.) It could have been a strong demon, I suppose - or a Legion. One thing is for sure: the Prince of Persia was not a human. Humans cannot contend with angels for 21 days.

Art imitates life. If anyone is familiar with the video game (or even movie,) it should be clear that the Prince of Persia is not a normal human. The Prince has the power of the sands of time infused in a sword - allowing the wielder of the weapon tainted with these sands the ability to manipulate time. Knowing this bit about the game/movie, it should raise brows and intrigue minds why the angel would mention the time length in which he was battling the prince. The prince of Persia in the movie and game is a magical entity, and battles plenty of powerful "magical" entities. In the 'lore, it wouldn't be hard to equate the "magical" foes of the Prince of Persia to, say, holy angels (who, of course have powers.)

I get that demons could hold up an angel from delivering his message. I do believe in spiritual warfare and I do believe demons can be a real threat. But I in no way shape or form believe they have the power to stop or control our prayer to God. Scripture is clear that the power of prayer is given to us freely and without fail. No demon can over ride God or shut off his ability to get prayer. Demons are powerful but they are not more powerful than God.

It says the prince of Persia opposed (held him up) for 21 days. Last I checked humans weren't demons...unless we're referring to possession, and I see no evidence of that in the passage.

The revelation of Daniel was of the end of days.

The Prince of Persia is a metaphor for Satan not demons.
