  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Name a doctrine that you used to believe in but dont anymore.

Well .. Protestants are the apple that falls from the Catholic tree . so for the seed of that apple to critize the tree . is .. well more of a reflection on itself .

Was in relation to penal substitutionary theory of atonement . as the topic can get very serious . i usually open with a joke .

Uh huh, ok. Except your analogy is flawed. It assumes there is nothing wrong with the "tree" the "seed" is criticizing. As for the joke, eh needs work. Lol! (A little joke of my own ;) )

Oh it's relevant. But a mcIntosh apple seed does not make a Mcintosh apple tree.;) I'm thinking it makes a crabapple.^_^

I used to believe in speaking in tongues, and that women should wear skirts, never slacks.

Now that's something I'd like to hear more about. What convinced you that the new age speaking in tongues was a put on or an over excitement?

Hmm .. well i did say .. that means protestant theology is worse so that may not necessarily mean that the tree it came from was good either .

I used to speak in tongues all the time . then i prayed to translate .

sometimes when i'm confessing a sin i speak in tongues because i can't quite get a word to identify it and i want the bad stuff to go pouffy! a little later a thought occurs to me that may very well be the translation .

It isn't that I think it's a put-on. I do believe it's real. I wasn't faking it, nor do I think others were. Over-excitement comes closer to the mark. What made me question it, for myself, was that I literally had no control over what came out of my mouth. Someone pointed out that part of the fruit of the Spirit is self-control, and after that, not feeling in control of my tongue or whatever I was saying didn't seem right to me.

Nor do I believe drama is necessary. "Deee-MON, in the NAME of Jesus I COMMAND you..." Just say it. No need to put on a display. The devil flees from the name, not the theatrics. The person who said, "The worst thing you can do to the devil when you meet him is to say, 'pfft, it's only you,'" had a point in my opinion.

JESUS VS THE PHARISEES

Mar 7:
1 And gathered together unto him are the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, having come from Jerusalem,
8 For having put away the command of God, ye hold the tradition of men, baptisms of pots and cups and many other such like things ye do.'
