  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The problem with that, if true, is man has decided what is scripture and what is not, not God. God being beyond our understanding does not mean I am not able to understand that God expects me to love others.

I agree and do not believe the Bible is inerrant and dictated by God. I do believe the Bible has more divine truth in it than any other source I have found in my seventy two years of looking.

The question is, how do you know that prayer is effective?

The Bible teaches that it is, but what if that part of the Bible is wrong? So you're in quite a dilemma. If you think prayer is effective only because you "feel" that it is, then you are simply relying on your subjective feelings and opinions, which cannot be trusted.

You need an objective, unchanging source of truth, right?

The Bible does not teach that prayer for a brother sinning unto death is effective. You are wrong about that also.

Just because it would be nice to have an instruction book on being Christian doesn't make the Bible 100% God inspired.

It is not unorthodox among people who know the history of the Bible. I said the existence of God is not a proven fact and that we need faith because of that fact. Without faith it is impossible to please God for He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. It was reported by you that I did not agree Jesus was God when I was saying Jesus is divine and the Son of God. What I was discussing with you was weather Jesus is the same as God the Father. You reported a post that appeared to say Jesus is not God, but in the context of the other posts it was clear I was referring to Jesus not being God the Father and being God the Son. I have also clearly posted that I do not claim to know or understand the exact nature and details of the relationship between the Father and the Son.

God is potentate, i.e., dynastēs = a prince, King, courtier, high officer, royal minister of great authority...

King of kings and Lord or lords...the ultimate authority...and we who love Him should strive to obey Him...

He has the power to administer the penalty for disobedience and will do so if we die in our sins.

I am sure we all agree at least on this.

The Bible while keeping in mind the fact that it was written and translated by man with man's preconceived ideas.
