Atheist dogpile!
Because He is God.
I always find it interesting when a Christian says they have a close personal relationship with someone they haven't seen, can't provide a physical description or location, don't know where they live, yet they expect us to take seriously their claim of a "personal relationship." I have a "personal relationship" with my wife, and I can tell you her eye color, hair color, how tall and how much she weighs, what she prefers to eat, etc., everything one would take at face value that I have a wife. Meh.
How do you know he cannot?
Because He is God.
Do you know what I mean when I say: He is God? Surely you are familiar with Jesus Christ? Surely you have read of the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob and how He was faithful to Israel during their sojournings?
Surely you know that God cannot lie.....for He is morally perfect....the Summum Bonum.....the Highest Good....
Either you a purposefully doing this or I'm not being clear enough.
Let's say you told me a car dealer told you the price of a car was x amount of dollars and was a reliable car.
If I asked you, how could you know if he is lying, you wouldn't respond with, "Because he is a car dealer. Because he is truthful. Because he is moral," would you?
What did I miss then?
But you have not asked me about a car dealer, you have asked me about my Lord and my God. You are asking me about my Beloved and the Lover of my Soul who died for me and rose again for me.
You asked me about God, not a car salesman.
I'm asking how you can know something. It doesn't matter what it is.
You cannot use one method for knowledge for one thing and another for something else. That is your foundation for making any decision. It can't have already been determined prior to you using a (the same) method.
I am asking you how COULD you know if he was lying. You keep answering as if I asked how DO you know he is not.
Do you understand the difference?
God cannot lie. Beyond that, I have nothing else to say.
You're basing your question on the assumption that it is possible that He could lie.
But that is not possible.
Now, do you understand?
How could you know he isn't lying to you?
Note: I didn't say "do you know"
You don't.
You simply have to try Him.
I understand what you are saying. You are declaring him to have certain attributes.
Don't answer with whether he could or could not, you have already established that, but could you tell or know if he did?
Ok.
And when you try him, how could you know his response isn't a lie or deceit?
God cannot lie.
I think the question you should be asking is "can a person think that they are talking with God but actually be deceived?"
The answer is yes.
You will know after you tried.
Also, compare your experience with others'.
It is the same as you learn anything else.
Again, you are answering questions I'm not asking.
I didn't ask could he lie, but could you know if he did? That's either yes or no.
If He did lie? Could I know if He did lie? The question is non-sensical.
You're asking me if it is possible for me to know if God could do something that He cannot possibly do.
