  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are you after a form of Christianity that is particularly Swedish (or Scandinavian) or the various forms of Christianity that exist in Sweden?

I guess traditional Roman Catholicism would be the answer

That or Lutheranism.

There were some missionaries to Scandinavia from the 8th Century, but nothing large scale until the 1100s. The Papacy hadn't fully asserted itself as the central authority either so, Christianity developed in its own fashion in Scandinavia. In 1531 Sweden cut ties with Rome and became a Protestant country (following Lutheranism). So Sweden was a Roman Catholic country for 367 years (1164 to 1531) and officially a Lutheran country for 469 years (until 2000).

Why not just think about scriptural Christianity, rather than a religious sect? There are many Christians who study their Bibles and have meetings in their homes with other believer friends.

There's nothing wrong in being interested in how Christianity has developed in your local context. History of Christianity is an interesting topic (as is the History of Sweden) :)

I think it's up to each person to decide what kind of church works best for them. In Denmark the main church (lutheranism) is only used for traditions and the services are carried out very cold and old fashioned - in many opinions boring and uninteresting.

Here in England I came to an Anglican church (never before a church go'er) which was full of life! Kids waving flags, there was a church band (!!!) and people actually PRAISED God. If you are interested in finding a church with that kind of spirit I would suggest an apostolic church. The Anglican community is not very big in Scandinavia (only about 150 members in Denmark) so when I return to Denmark this Friday after a year in England I will try out an Apostolic one.
