  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does a GLOBAL FLOOD truly seem like the BEST explanation for seashells on mountains?

Are you an expert on Sumerian history now? Do you translate the text yourself or do you depend on someone else to do that?

don't worry, the sumerian versions all say a "7 day flood", I am fairly sure an ark, the Global flood, hosting all the animals" etc etc would fail miserablly, when the water tables only had a week of rain....I mean ....common.....

the boat would never get off the ground, might as well walk around the flood!

The Biblical account is far superior in quality, historicity, and completness.

It is authentic,

the other is a plaigerized corruption, obviously either purposefully in spite, or somewhat naively through the principality of the air (satans, deceptions)

I already mentioned this on a few posts, and have awaited responses. Apparently there is no argument.

Show me proof of a sudden erosion event that could have caused a gully the size of THAT canyon!
Actually what makes it interesting is that it is NOT that big. A lot of river cut gorges are so big and wide so that you do not get the visual impact of the Grand Canyon.

The Niagara Falls were created at the end of the Wisconsin glaciation about 10,000 years ago. When the ice melted, the Great Lakes drained over the Niagara Escarpment by way of the Niagara River. The River initially cut a gorge through the escarpment. The layers of rock in the escarpment have a top rock formation that is composed of harder stone that eroded more slowly than the underlying materials. The softer rock preferentially eroded away, undercutting the harder rock. The unsupported top rocks gave way from time to time creating a sharp edge for the falls. If the entire formation had been softer rock the present Falls would have been reduced to a series of rapids.

I'd like to know who this "we" is that Grady refers to..It's like he doesn't have an independent thought about the subject..
Is it his Pastor,a web site,a panel of Creation "scientists",or someone else, other than himself?
Please be original and quit including yourself into a group(we),and say who the "we" actually is.
Saying "I KNOW" is a whole lot more palatable to the rest of us...

different types of rocks..different geology.

No.

So?

The Grand Canyon shows erosion ... large deal.

We're talking about how the Grand Canyon got here in the first place.

Until you have been there, and have witnessed the power of erosion, you will never understand..to say it is awesome is an understatement!

Ditto your way, my friend!

Matthew 22:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

?Wrong for what? Other then flooding, like we saw in New Orleans, New Jersey and New York, what do we have to worry about from Global warming?

Well you are doubly wrong now.

The claim was that the ice caps showed that Noah's Ark never happened. Ice floats.

Also only floating ice has little effect on sea level. It will still have an effect, but I will get to that later. There is plenty of land based ice on Antarctica and Greenland. Melting that will raise sea level by 70 meters. Good buy Florida. Also once the ice caps melt the temperature of the oceans will go up as a whole next. Warmer water expands and takes up a higher volume.

I do not know what your talking about. Noah's flood is what we would call a "LOCAL" FLOOD because only Noah's ecosystem was flooded, not the whole biosphere.

My bad, I thought you were one of the believers in a global flood.

How long ago do you think it was?

You have to go back quite a while in time to get around the problem of genetic bottlenecks.

well we know from labratory flume experiments, that catastophy can cause erosions like the grand canyon, over night.

Did those experiments use a small amount of water to cut deep, nearly vertical trenches in sandstone, limestone, granite and bedrock?

look at mt saint helens, I believe there is a gully formed by a mud flow (that was a melted snow cap mixed with dirt) that formed a canyon so deep that it looks just like the grand canyon. MUD! not LAVA!

And the gully was cut through ash and mud, not limestone, sandstone, granite and bedrock.

so thats something to think about, in fact Steve Austin has a peer review article about it it's called "little Grand Canyon."

Check it out when you have time, since you folk always say Creationists have no science articles to bring up.

They don't. Plugging Steve Austin and Grand Canyon into Google Scholar doesn't produce any hits. Writing an article consistent with the ICR's statement of faith and having it appear in one of their publications is not peer review.

I must quote one of my favorite sites,

which in turn has quoted one of my second favorite sites:

In reply to Old Earth Creationists (Hugh Ross) regarding Ice cap dating methods:

Faulty due to circular reasoning fallacies:

<Snip of incorrect nonsense.>

He was plain old wrong. For the first several thousand layers counting can be done by eye. Then the deeper in the core they go they use various overlapping methods of counting. There is no circular reasoning. Sometimes they check their dates against other sites. But circular reasoning is not used.

Volcanic dust is recognizable as such and can be used as a very accurate marker for beds that it appears in. The claim that it could come from erosion is either wishful thinking or an outright lie by your source.

The Hebrew people do have a huge genetic bottleneck problem. Just like the Amish have a bottleneck genetic problem.

Links please. Are you claiming that Noah's Flood only affected Jewish people?

That does not seem very Biblical to me.

There hasn't been a "Hebrew people" in ~2000 years. Some Eastern European Jewish ethnicities have more genetic disorders because of self-selected interbreeding (too many close cousins marrying). The same applies to the Amish.

That's not a genetic bottleneck and it's not the genetic bottleneck problem that SZ was referring to. A genetic bottleneck occurs when there simply no other beings of your species to breed with than close cousins because the entire population of the species is so small.
