1. The wedding of Cana is an event that happened AND had deeper meaning just like a parable. Jesus said his hour was not yet come and then went on to tell us about his hour. YOU WOULD HAVE TO HAVE EARS TO HEAR.
Or X ray vision to see something in the word which isn't there.
I don't see how it foretells the resurrection, but if you want to believe that - fine.
2 The temple took 46x24=1104 (year is as a day Ezekiel) 1104+3=1107 This passover is 1107 days from the beginning of the year 5,770 (Nisan 1).
I don't believe in trying to work out dates of the Lord's return from Scripture, so none of that means anything to me.
A 1000 years is as or like, a day; doesn't mean it literally is.
3. There is a reason Jesus gave an exact number to the fruit. YOU WOULD HAVE TO HAVE ears TO hear (shouting won't help).
So don't shout then. (Capital letters = shouting in netiquette.)
You obviously believe that the "30 fold, 60 fold and 100 fold" actually refers to something else. I don't know how you arrive at that - Jesus didn't say it and the text doesn't teach it. So it's not about having ears to hear, but reading in between the lines.
It must be strange defending the WORD from a point of view of trying to get less out of it.
Quite the opposite.
As part of my preachers training, I was often given two verses, told to do exegesis on them and then write an application for today. I didn't think I would learn much from 2 verses, never mind be able to write 1000 words on them, and I didn't enjoy exegesis. In fact, I was amazed at how much I did learn from studying these two verses carefully, and in context, and how doing this really opened up the Scripture to me.
We study to learn more about the Word - to understand and get more out of it, not less.
How many numbers must you sweep under the rug if they don't have a meaning?
If the numbers had a meaning then Jesus would have clearly told us what that was. Anything else is just imposing our own understanding/interpretation.
I mean, in some cases numbers can be symbolic. For example, the number 7 represents completeness and is one of God's numbers, 3 is also one of God's numbers because of the Trinity, 6 is the number for man - and so on.
But saying that a number represents something, or is symbolic, is different from saying that we need to add numbers together to get another number, that number represents days or years and refers to when a certain event will, or won't, happen. Many have tried to set a date for the Lord's return based on this method - and all have been wrong.
Look at the Gospels; Jesus did not speak to his own disciples in parables, far less some kind of code. He taught them plainly, so that they would be able to go out and teach others.
Yet your whole church will be behind you calling you a good soldier for God.
I don't know what you mean by this. But I know that if I started teaching this sort of stuff at church, they'd a) think I'd flipped, b) not understand what I was on about, c) report it to the minister because they were concerned. Hopefully I wouldn't be barred from preaching, but I've no doubt it would cause concern and lead to a pastoral conversation.
