hello, I have been reading the posts on here for about one month, and then I joined. Overall I like all of the forums. I originally came "here" to look for information, and I must say after reading most of the posts over the last month or so, I have never been more confused. I have also never seen so many disagreements! Anyway, I think i'll just go back to looking and waiting for Jesus to appear and not know when it will happen, just pray for my family and loved ones and go on with my life

Just thought i'd pop in and say "hi"

Just stay close to God. Don't trust in the doctrines of men.

Every word that God said will come true, exactly as He declared it.

God will show you, HIMSELF, if you ask Him.

Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Jhn 14:26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Thank you. I do suffer from major anxiety issues. Got out of control when Obama got re-elected. Had to actually go on meds and therapy! I am doing much better now, even went off the meds. I bring all my anxieties go Jesus, and so far the "feeling" I got from Him is to not worry and trust in Him and just be ready, that it could happen anytime.

Sorry this thread is off topic for this forum

Yeah, well, he's got the devil behind him, obviously. I was really unhappy about it too. Evil is succeeding.

It has to be this way because it's part of God's plan. It's almost time for us to go. We have to leave before he can take over because we were given power to restrain the devil.

Daniel 11:36 “The king will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself above every god and will say unheard-of things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been determined must take place. 37 He will show no regard for the gods of his ancestors or for the one desired by women, nor will he regard any god, but will exalt himself above them all.

Daniel 8:23 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.
24 And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.
25 And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.

You gotta have faith. There has always been evil in the world and always will be. No escaping that, no matter what we try. Don't let the news of the day get to you. We must overcome evil, not allow evil to overcome us.

My parents survived WWII, so I figure I'll find a way to survive whatever comes along.

As for the timing, no one really knows. So it's interesting to discuss things we see happening, but not get overly worked up about it.

Thank you! No I know it's good to discuss things like this, and I appreciate this particular forum. I just need to know when to turn it all off and not let the devil get to me. I know he uses my fear to hinder my walk with God. Sometimes I just can't help coming here and taking a "peek" is all!;)

Hey friend, I totally know what you mean. When I joined CF I was in a very different place than I am now, I believed all of the futurist eschatological nonsense such as the rapture and that bible codes were legitimate and mattered. However I've come to see it's a bunch of rubbish and should be avoided. Once in a blue moon you will see a worthwhile conversation taking place in Eschatology, but more often than not it's overrun with Christians who represent the fringes of the faith because they subscribe to heresy in some form or another.

CF is a great place as a whole, General Theology can be a difficult place at times because there can be just as many heated discussions there as there are here, only it's usually about a much wider range of theological subjects whereas Eschatology (naturally) draws people that like to talk about one, and only one, brand of Eschatology (mainly futurist dispensationalism).

If you want to learn some things about Eschatology that are worth learning, I highly recommend checking out some of NT Wright's work. He's a former bishop in the Church of England and has since retired and become a research professor at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. He's considered one of the foremost New Testament scholars in the western world and has done some work regarding Eschatology, although that's not his sole focus by a long shot.

I also highly recommend investigating the Early Church Fathers and the Ecumenical Councils to dispel some of the confusion that's been caused by the blokes here in Eschatology.

I hope you stick around CF though PH! The diversity can be an educational thing. :D

This place is a magnet for people who want to "push" every idea imaginable. What you need to do is consider whether or not they actually demonstrate what they are teaching from the scriptures.

It is easy to "demonstrate" almost anything from the Bible, if you are willing to cherry pick verses and use them out of context.

But to really understand the scriptures you need to apply a few basic principles:

Principle #1: The key to the Bible is the Bible.

Except in rare questions such as the meaning of ancient words or the identity of ancient places or nations, we do not gain an understanding of the Bible from external information, we gain an understanding of external information from the Bible.

Principle #2: The Bible agrees with itself.

An interpretation of any part of the Bible is not correct if it disagrees with any other part of the Bible.

Principle #3: Biblical language is precise.

Israel does not mean the church, and the church does not mean Israel. Israel does not mean Judah, and Judah does not mean Israel. The ·king does not mean the prince, and the prince does not mean the ·king.

Principle #4: Every detail in the Bible is significant.

God does not waste words. The far north is not the same as the north.

Principle #5: The Bible means what it says.

Express statements of coming events mean exactly what they say.

Principle #6: Biblical visions are symbolic.

Prophetic visions in the Bible are not pictures of coming events. They are visual symbols of these events.

Principle #7: Biblical symbolism is moral.

The subject of a Biblical vision is something that has a moral similarity to what the prophet saw.

Principle #8: Human reasoning is useless.

We know the meaning of Biblical symbols only through Biblical statements about their meanings.

Principle #9: Biblical symbolism is consistent.

If the Bible gives us the meaning of a symbol in one passage, it has the same meaning in other passages.

Principle #10: Bible prophecy concerns the time of the end.

Many prophecies have had a partial fulfillment in the past, and may thus appear to apply only to that time; but unless every detail of a prophecy has been fulfilled, it also concerns the future.

You also need to apply a few basic concepts:

Draw a clear line between what the scriptures say
and what you think they mean.

It would be difficult to overstress the importance of this concept. Failure to clearly define this line is one of the most common errors in interpreting scripture. We know what the scriptures say, and that is all we really know. We often think we understand what a scripture means. If we are truly being led of the Holy Spirit, we interpret correctly. But we often think we are being subject to the Holy Spirit when we are really only trying to prove our own ideas. “He who trusts in his own heart is a fool.” (Proverbs 28:26)

Don’t bring your ideas to the Bible,
get your ideas from the Bible.

This concept is closely related to the previous one. The moment you realize you are looking for proof that your idea is correct, stop. You are probably only being willful.

Do not speculate on the meaning of scripture.

Certain men repeatedly make such statements as “this may be a fulfillment of” such-and-such a prophecy, or “this could mean” so-and-so. All such speculation is unprofitable and vain. If we cannot speak assuredly on the meaning of a scripture, it is better to remain silent.

“Walk prudently when you go to the house of God; and draw near to hear rather than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they do evil. Do not be rash with your mouth, And let not your heart utter anything hastily before God. For God is in heaven, and you on earth; Therefore let your words be few.” (Ecclesiastes 5:1-2)

Disregard all prophecy from any source other than the Bible.

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17) If we know the scriptures, we are complete and thoroughly equipped. Proverbs 30:6 warns us “Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.” Revelation, the last book of the Bible was also the last one to be written. It closes with this solemn warning:

“For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” (Revelation 22:18-19)

Purple...no doubt there are disagreements...however "waiting for Jesus" is not an answer either.

God commands us to study His word to be approved unto Him! You have to put in the work because as a believer, unbelievers are going to ask you about such things...you need to have an answer for them.

We're fallible, and we will not understand God's word perfectly, so disagreements will exist...however they don't have to be divisive.

We should simply encourage one another in the word because for the most part we all agree Christ is going to come a second time...that should be the rallying point!

I have been saved for 44 years this OCT, and I always have lived believing JEsus can come at anytime, or that I may pass on at any time, but in no way am I going to let that stop me from living today, fully, and planning for tomorrow.
Fear of the future robs us of the joys of today, and fear of the world at large -which comes to us so fast and many times with false focus' about what may be, but not what is, because of fast communication and opinion boards- robs us of the joys and pleasures and blessings of today.

Live life while you have it, and let the future take care of itself.
Have a friend over for tea; watch a good family friendly, clean, moral film; read a good uplifting book; tell a joke, listen to a joke; laugh a lot; pray a lot; love a lot; live a lot -and praise and thank the Creator a LOT for the blessings of each day!
