Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do we plan our own steps?

With all respect, you are avoiding the scripture in Jeremiah! Please tackle Jeremiah 23:13? It seems you are trying to divert from it.

Jeremiah 13:22-27
And if you ask yourself,
"Why has this happened to me?" —
it is because of your many sins
that your skirts have been torn off
and your body mistreated.
23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin
or the leopard its spots?
Neither can you do good
who are ACCUSTOMED to doing evil.
24 "I will scatter you like chaff
driven by the desert wind.
25 This is your lot,
the portion I have decreed for you,"
declares the LORD,
"because you have forgotten me
and trusted in false gods
.
26 I will pull up your skirts over your face
that your shame may be seen —
27 your adulteries and lustful neighings,
your shameless prostitution!
I have seen your detestable acts
on the hills and in the fields
Woe to you, O Jerusalem!
How long will you be unclean?"

Deut 30:19-20
This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live 20 and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him.

Sheep are sheep and goats are goats. One doesn't become the other. Jesus made clear references to two different types of creatures.

Matt 25:40
The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

Matt 25:45-46
"He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.' 46 "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life
."

If humans can choose to do whatever regardless of Gods will then certainly the result has to be a risk taking God ?

Did God risk Adam sinning in Eden ?

Then was it certain what Adam would do .......
If God ALLOWS sin but does not make us that right there is free will. He hates sin, yet I can choose to sin if I WANT to. or I can choose not to

Just posting scripture without commentary is pointless in these discussions. Just saying.

Well then, you might say, "Why does God blame people for not responding? Haven't they simply done what he makes them do?" English Standard Version (©2001)
You will say to me then, “Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?”
9:19 Paul's objectors asked the very same questions that are posed on this forum. No....we cannot resist God's will. And...YES, God is good.

Absolutely right !

Whatever use God may secretly make of sin is none of our buisness.
The duty of every human is to obey God not figure out His secret plan for those who refuse to obey ....

I have asked who moved David to number the people a dozen times , and how quickly posters disappear !!

2 Sam 12:7-10
Then Nathan said to David, "You are the man! This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. 8 I gave your master's house to you, and your master's wives into your arms. I gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more. 9 Why did you despise the word of the LORD by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. 10 Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.

This makes no sense , are you able to sin in heaven ........ Then in a perfect state do you lose your precious free will ?

Good question. Fora 1000 years Satan will be bound. Man can still sin but there will be not be because of Satans's temptation. Finall, after satan and all sin will be cast into the lake of fire. We will be in heaven where there can be no darkness. So I would say yes. Reminds me to revise eschatology.

So the ultimate paradox in your theology is the more a person sins the freer they are , conversely the more perfected one is the less free !

So when Christ set men free he was mistaken ?

You don't know?

2 Sam 24:2
And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.

Stay on topic... Yes, sir!

Yes I know the texts .

Now , at long last , why did David get punished for sinning when it is written that God moved David to number the people ?

We know it was a sin because we know God used Satan in this process .

And yet men still deny God decrees sin..

Hey Cygnusx1,

First, David did not get punished. The plague came upon the people upon whom God's anger burned.

Second, God had satan tempt David, knowing that David would succumb in order to bring about judgment upon the people.

Wouldn't you say that David sinned and was responsible for his own sin? This was not an irresistible temptation. Joab saw the error in it and tried to persuade David otherwise.

In other words, this is similar to Adam/Eve and satan and similar to Pharaoh. God provides the impetus and man wills it into action without it being forced upon his will. Thus, God permits and even knows that sin will result, but without Him being the Author of it. In essence He directs sin for His purposes, but He did not make Adam, Pharaoh, or David sin.

And again, I agree that God decreed to permit the Fall, but I do not go so far as to say that He decreed the Fall, likewise, He permits (and directs) sin, but He does not command, decree, or make a person to sin.

Blessings!

Yes. For example Calvinist Skala and non Calvinist JackSparrow agree "

......
You'd make a fine Calvinist, as we don't believe God is the author of sin.

The Geneva Institute goes further and says :

"It is nothing short of blasphemy to say that God is the cause of sin, once we understand what the Bible reveals about God and sin."

CX1 perhaps you should revise your position.

"God had Satan tempt David "
