  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello there ladies and gents,

I am wondering if any of you has had the chance to work with a Nikon D40. I know it has been discontinued, and there are far many better starter cameras to begin a photography business, but she's been good to me, so until I can afford a flashy camera, I am going to have to stick with this one for a bit. I can say is my starter camera as I have been using it for some freelance photography (for 2 months to be exact).

Short story. I've been a shutterbug for as long as I remember. Recently, I took that tiny plunge of going public to friends and family (totally overwhelming). Very new to this experience, so if any of you have any suggestions, advice, and would like to see some of my shots, let me know.

Thanks in advance!

Hi jen,

I shoot with an older Nikon myself (a D200, so about the same vintage as yours). Personally, I don't think that the camera has that much influence - inspiration and having a "good eye" counts more I think. That said, newer models would offer more megapixels (handy if you want to print big) and better low-light performance - though that will depend on the type of shooting that you do.

If you're doing this stuff to earn money, it might be worth getting a second camera body as a backup. I would look at a second-hand low shutter count model from a reputable dealer personally.

I don't know what other kit you have, but you'd possibly get more benefit from considering what lenses you have and whether you have an external flashgun. Of course, that will depend on what type of shots you take.

I'm not in the business myself but have a been around cameras for a long time - so if there is anything I can help with please let me know. Also, I would be interested in seeing your shots.

Hello Andy!

Thanks so much for your reply!

So you have D200? Excellent!
How long have you been into photography/cameras?

I must agree with you in regards of having an eye for it. Well, for me at least is mostly the fun, and the love for it. I'm concentrating in family/children/newborn lifestyle portraits.
Easy to see why I have picked this style to start with.

My tools right now? Might shock the tech savvy, the long time pros.
I just own the one + Two Lenses - AF-S Nikkor 18-70mm & AF-Nikkor 18-55mm. Nothing extremely special. Though, it seems I might be getting lens upgrades by christmas (day) :prayer:

Let me find out how this album thing works in here, so I can post some photos. I'm feeling kind of nervous to see what you think, truthfully.

Thanks again!

Hi Jen,

Well, I've been taking pictures for nearly 30 years now starting with an Olympus OM-1 and Nikon SLRs for nearly 10 years now.

Both your lenses are good performers, despite being "slow" kit lenses. I know that the 18-70 in particular has a very good reputation and the focal lengths are pretty good for what it sounds like you're doing.

I'm also trying to work out this album thing here - do you know if it is possible to link your pictures from Flickr directly to the posts here?

I believe you can use Flickr with this. Someone else has their album directed to Flickr. Now the question is how do you do it?

Let me know if you were able to. I will be around in a few hours. I am taking my lil' ones to the docs.
What's your time zone?

Thanks!

I think it dirt specs on the focusing screen,
I had this on a older Pentax were the camera shop said it was behind not on the open side of the camera.
I assume you tried to blow the dirt away.

Digital single-lens reflex camera - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Between part 5 and 6 maybe.

If it does not affect the picture I would lave it.
Did that to my old Pentax. :)

Thanks everyone!

Just purchased new lens to maybe expand my horizons. That sounded cheesy.
Anyway, my new baby lens is AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm. Let's see how that works for me.

Anyway, everyone is welcome to share their photos as I would love to check your work!

Thanks a bunch :)
