  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I saw mostly Saturnalia being celebrated. Lots of evergreen stuff (a Roman Saturnalia custom), and lights (a Roman Saturnalia custom), and presents (a Roman Saturnalia custom).

I did see a couple places celebrating Christmas, with a Nativity scene. I also saw a place celebrating Good Friday by putting up a lighted cross. maybe they are from the Southern Hemisphere (even that does't work.)?

The Puritans can take a hike ... we favor the Pilgrims.

Pilgrims, Pilgrims.... ah, you mean those Puritans who decided that Holland was a little too rough-and-tumble for them, and thought they'd try their luck in the New World?

I take it you would have stayed behind?

Not being a Puritan, I never would've been in Holland in the first place.

You do at least pretend to study the history you expound on, don't you, AV?

Just out of curiosity, did anyone remember Saturnalia this year; or, as I predicted, was it eclipsed by Christmas?

I remembered it. I do not celebrate it, however.

... which eclipses Ishtar.
Avoided point noted.

'Christmas' celebration begins in November and extends into to New Years for many Christians and non-Christians alike.

Poor Good Friday and Easter Sunday are far less popular by Christians. I just find this to be rather interesting.

I did not celebrate Saturnalia, but I know of people who did.

Unfortunately Thanksgiving gets walked on as well in the process; but that's because big love-of-money corporations want to get this Christmas spending going ASAP.

Look... most moderately educated people are aware Christmas is a cinnamon roll of Christian and pagan traditions. I don't know if it bothers pagans, but it certainly doesn't bother me. I have no problem with the Christian custom of Christmas having a heavy amount of pagan sources.

Where would the corporations be without the mass consumers?

I wasn't aware pagans had a monopoly on customs.
