The Republican Party is reeling from defeat, what changes should they make?

If they continue to alienate Latinos, the Public Service Homosexuals and the Working c
Class, Republicans better get used to being second best in Presidential elections for a long time to come...

Might want to look at what Clinton and Bush Jr. promised to Latinos. Then, look at what Obama has promised.

New immigration laws, easier way to gain citizenship, amnesty, it's all been said before. Both sides are guilty of being a Pavlov.

Yeah, that channel has seriously gone down the drain. Same is true of Court TV; now Tru TV...and even that is a fallacy as they are guilty of staging their shows and using actors.

However, there are also more discovery, science, history channels out there now.

There may be more channels, but the programming is moving away from science and history...we now have shows like Storage Wars, and at least two focusing on pawn shops, etc. I miss Cosmos.

A&E has always shown other TV shows and movies on their channel. Now, they are doing their own shows.

Still, A&E (Just like Discovery, History) have multiple other channels. Same is true even of PBS!

You still have channels that dedicate themselves to nothing but science as well as history.

Latinos don't vote almost unanimously for one party for no reason...

They did vote for Bush, didn't they?

And before that, they did vote for Clinton, didn't they?

What do you think will happen if Obama and the democrats don't come through with their promise of amnesty?

What channels are left that do that?
Another thing is that PBS is still free television. I always saw it's children's programming as supplementing early learning in school and home, and think that as our education system continues to falter and lose support, we really need them.
Mr Rodgers had a great video testifying to Congress on the value of PBS that is worth watching.

My point is Republican policies are alienating the largest growing voter group in the country. Kinda dumb if you ask me going forward...

Politicians are a reflection of society and both parties reflect a society with a broken moral compass.

Politicians react with knee-jerk reaction to issues, because our society has raised them from childhood to expect instant results.

The consequences are evident going to the attack on 9/11, where society supported the government's eagerness to blow who ever was responsible off the map. There was little wisdom involved with their decision making when it came to getting us into two evil wars.

Same is true with the economy.

Bloomberg expressed what our society is about when he was going to go ahead and run the New York Marathon, while his city was still recovering from Hurricane Sandy. The $30 million he saw in business revenues out weighed what was really important.

Morally, we are bankrupt, and confused.

We argue about marriage being a right for homosexuals, when marriage among heterosexual couples is down by 70% in some areas of the nation.

Why argue about the right to get married, when you can just live together without all the legal responsibility ?

I don't see the GOP changing any more than I see the Democratic party changing.

Americans will continue to elect the candidates who are a reflection of themselves. The mirror effect is what we should be concerned with.

You have PBS, Discovery, National Geographic, Science, Investigation Discovery (ID), History, History 2, Animal Planet, Nat Geo Wild, Smithsonian Channel.

These are just the channels that I have in HD. There are more.

Don't be surprised if Latinos fling towards republicans again.

If Obama doesn't come through, that's a rallying cry republicans can use.

Also, since Obama is "for" immigrants, he deported more illegals last year than Bush ever did in one year, Obama voted for the border fence and still dished out more money for the completion of that wall.

1. The Republican Party should tell Grover Norquist to self-deport to one of the foreign tax havens where he undoubtedly keeps most of his money.
2. Having convinced the disgraced Norquist to self-deport, they should then work on a serious deficit reduction plan which includes both revenue increases (taxes) and budget cuts, including defense cuts.
3. In order to shore up the Social Security program, they should enact a few simple proposals (e.g. change the way COLA is computed) that would realize some savings. Then they should cooperate in enacting comprehensive immigration reform so that we will have a population balance between young and elderly people. See? Simple!
4. While continuing to encourage the "free market," Republicans should listen to the experts who say that health care is the only segment of the economy that does NOT respond to free market solutions. As it cycles in, the AHA will eventually help lower average health care costs....but we need more public option, more negotiations on drug prices, etc. Yes, there are conservative politicians in all those other countries with national health care, and NONE of them have turned into pumpkins yet.

There are lots of other things....but I could name a Republican or two I've admired.

Senator Jacob Javits R-NY, for example, who spent his lifetime working for real pension reform (despite the efforts of conservatives to ax it after he died.)

Senator John Danforth, R-MO. Senator Olympia Snowe, R-ME.

Add people who are curious enough to check reality against what we're told and this would be a pretty complete list.

to be fair both sides tell lies

however this election was more difficult because romney kept changing his mind and talking out of both sides of his mouth so obama often fought against things romney changed his mind about and then romney could say "but thats not what im supporting" because he didnt support the same thing he did two weeks ago or something

but both sides did indeed lie
side effect of fear mongering
keep people terrified and make them believe you can deliver them from fear and theyll vote fo ryou

If you're implying that weed is the liberal recreational drug of choice, then what would the conservative recreational drug of choice be?

Hmm...obviously Dom Perignon for Romney and friends....moonshine for the Bible Belters (although there is a devastating amount of meth here as well)...and Fox News propaganda, the opiate of the masses, for the rest.

Lol, according to the left in my country, those who want to legalize weed are extremist libertarians who want to exploit the working class. :D Which is pretty much true, btw.

I guess that the Republicans could be pressing the issue of illegal immigration even more, which seems to be a huge problem according to the experts I've listened to. That could be a good way of showing the discrepancy between ordinary decent folks wish for safety and societal stability, and the nightmare-ish utopia of the liberal elite.

Oh, and by the way, #Santorum2016. :crossrc:

I don't think that immigration has anything to do with social or societal instability.

The Statue of Liberty stands in NY Harbor welcoming immigrants.

The immigrants I've met aren't asking for handouts from government. They are hardworking, young, and energetic.

Yes, I know Republicans would rather tell the elderly to jump off a cliff than to continue a Social Security program which could easily become solvent with some young immigrants contributing.

As usual, they would rather harm the elderly and prevent people escaping economic deprivation and, sometimes, political persecution from working towards a better life (it's what they call a win-win situation).

I guess that's why 70% of Hispanic immigrants, most of them, I'm sure, Catholic, voted for Obama.

It might be interesting to note that The Learning Channel used to be publicly funded as part of NASA, and now that it's privatized, it shows Honey Boo Boo.
Many children supplement their learning through television, and there should be quality television available to them. We want an educated people, not a country full of Honey Boo Boos.
If it is something people want and they are willing to watch it then it will be on television. You go out and get either advertisement money or donations. That is how it should work. If it is important enough to enough people it shouldn't be a problem for them to raise money for it. We should not be putting money that as a country we don't have into something that should be privately funded.

With regards to legal immigration, this is true.

However, illegal immigration is proving you wrong.

The border towns in the southwest are seeing extreme violence by illegal immigrants, mostly because the illegals are criminals with no respect for life or law.
