Faith is a personal act—the free response of the human person to the initiative of God who reveals himself. But faith is not an isolated act. No one can believe alone, just as no one can live alone. You have not given yourself faith as you have not given yourself life. The believer has received faith from others and should hand it on to others. Our love for Jesus and for our neighbor impels us to speak to others about our faith. Each believer is thus a link in the great chain of believers. I cannot believe without being carried by the faith of others, and by my faith I help support others in the faith. (CCC)

What do you think faith is?

Your idea of faith, where we get it, etc. is not scriptural.

Do ya have scripture to back up what you posted?

“How are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without a preacher? And how can men preach unless they are sent?”(Rom 10:14-15) No one—no individual and no community—can proclaim the Gospel to himself: “Faith comes from what is heard."(Rom 10:17) No one can give himself the mandate and the mission to proclaim the Gospel. The one sent by the Lord does not speak and act on his own authority, but by virtue of Christ’s authority; not as a member of the community, but speaking to it in the name of Christ. No one can bestow grace on himself; it must be given and offered. This fact presupposes ministers of grace, authorized and empowered by Christ. From him, bishops and priests receive the mission and faculty (“the sacred power”) to act in persona Christi Capitis; deacons receive the strength to serve the people of God in the diaconia of liturgy, word, and charity, in communion with the bishop and his presbyterate. The ministry in which Christ’s emissaries do and give by God’s grace what they cannot do and give by their own powers, is called a “sacrament” by the Church’s tradition. Indeed, the ministry of the Church is conferred by a special sacrament. (CCC)

Faith does come by hearing.

Where do we get faith for it to come?

Scripture please.

:)
When St. Peter confessed that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, Jesus declared to him that this revelation did not come “from flesh and blood,” but from “my Father who is in heaven.” Faith is a gift of God, a supernatural virtue infused by him. “Before this faith can be exercised, man must have the grace of God to move and assist him; he must have the interior helps of the Holy Spirit, who moves the heart and converts it to God, who opens the eyes of the mind and ‘makes it easy for all to accept and believe the truth.’”(Mt 16:17; cf. Gal 1:15; Mt 11:25) (CCC)http://www.usccb.org/beliefs-and-te...of-the-catholic-church/epub/index.cfm#note179

What do you think faith is?

No one can believe alone? What does that statement mean exactly?

To be honest, I do not think faith comes from others, but from the LORD alone. That's my belief anyways...

You are right in that faith is from God.

However ya forgot to include the scripture that says so.

Faith is the theological virtue by which we believe in God and believe all that he has said and revealed to us, and that Holy Church proposes for our belief, because he is truth itself. By faith “man freely commits his entire self to God.” For this reason the believer seeks to know and do God’s will. “The righteous shall live by faith.” Living faith “work through charity.”(Rom 1:17; Gal 5:6.) Now we're ready
And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved; ) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Ephesians 2:1-10

Why don't ya stop the copy and paste from your "churches" book and post what you know for yourself in your own words.
...
The cut and paste served a very useful purpose. Now the ground is set. The verse you wanted is in my previous post.

You didn't post the scripture yet that tells us that Faith is from God.

I love the scripture!

But the "gift" spoken of is not faith, nor grace.

The gift referred to is eternal life or being saved.

If you prefer a different verse then perhaps this will serve:
For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. Romans 12:3

Ya nailed it that time!

Now a question for you.

We have the scripture now that God dealt to every man the measure of faith.

That means, since God does not lie that each of us have faith.

We also have the scripture you quoted that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

Right?

Yes, that is right!

My question for you is this.

God dealt to every man the measure if faith and faith comes by hearing.

How can something(faith) that we already have(faith), come?
When we already have it.
:)

What measure of grace did Paul receive?

Ephesisan 2:7 of which I became a ministrant, according to the gift of the grace of God that was given to me, according to the working of His power;
8 to me--the less than the least of all the saints--was given this grace, among the nations to proclaim good news--the untraceable riches of the Christ,

Faith is both a gift of God and a human act by which the believer gives personal adherence to God who invites his response. By faith a person freely assents to the whole truth that God has revealed. Of course, the substance of the Faith is what God has revealed and what we receive from those who testify to it; that is to say, we receive the substance of faith from the preaching of the gospel by those who minister the gospel to God's church and to the world.
