In a previous thread, Distortions in the Clear Word Bible-Old Testament, I pointed out that Jack Blanco, a Seventh Day Adventist theologian, inserted his own views into the Old Testament, and flatly reversed the meaning of some verses in his paraphrase.
The liberties which Blanco takes with the New Testament are, if anything, much greater. Part of the problem is that the Seventh Day Adventist Church denies the existence of a permanent hell. Adventist theology says that at the Final Judgment the wicked will be consumed by fire but they will not continue to suffer. The Adventists have not back pedaled this belief. It is one of the first things they say to anyone and one of the key doctrines they teach to children.
The Parables of Christ, which contain the core of His teaching, do refer to a permanent hell. Blanco seems to be at war with the Parables in the Book of Matthew.
Matthew 8:11-12 NIV
11[bless and do not curse]I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12[bless and do not curse]But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 8: 11-12 Clear Word
11 He is living proof that people everywhere can be spiritual sons and daughters of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and be in God's kingdom. But those who think their blood connection with Abraham makes them heirs of the kingdom will be left in darkness and bitterly weep in despair.
Matthew 22:13 NIV
13[bless and do not curse]Then the king told the attendants, Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 22:13 Clear Word
13 So the king said to his servants, 'Take this man and show him the door!' The utter remorse and weeping of this man was unfathomable.
