CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

As for the reseach on whether or not to attribute the OP to Foxworthy DOESN'T AMOUNT TO A HILL OF BEANS to me and is not something I'm going to spend any more time on.

I stated earlier in the thread that Foxworthy is not the point of this thread and I would have simply taken his name out and put author unknown, but that was not good enough. Now you are attributing jokes to Foxworthy even though he has said he did not write them. Will you edit the OP for accuracy?

He isn't the point and never has been except to a certain group of folks that have trouble dealing with the words therein.
The words could have been written by that creepy guy who works with the janitorial crew for all you know.
Why should they be given any weight? They aren't especially funny, they add a little heat--but no light--to political discussions, and they aren't factually correct.
So why even bother with them if they weren't said by somebody famous?

I didn't care who wrote them but when a name is given as the author it would be wrong, to my way of thinking, to not credit him.

Having been in a depressurized cabin once I understand the thought behind the sentence. Not so much of a "Gee I wish I could open the window" but "holy cow the windows don't open". Of course, that was immediately followed by "DUH".
And, the thought process all took place in my head so no harm done.

My daughter, who is brilliant by the way, moved into a new residence (but old house) on which one of the windows had a small broken pane. The window had several panes that were laid out in a diamond shapes. She said, I've looked but can't find a diamond shaped piece of glass. My husband drew a square on a piece of paper and turned it so the diamond shape was shown.
In her defense, she was 8 1/2 months pregnant with her first child at the time. Thinking gets a little weird in that state. Hormones going crazy!
We still laugh together over that and today that soon to be born baby is 21!
