Is artistic nudity okay?

Long story short I have to sketch a live nude for a course I'm doing in two weeks. Which means there's going to be a butt nekked woman in front of us:o . I can chose to opt out of doing it but I'm not sure if I should. I think I'm the only christian in the class I don't want to feel like the odd one out.
One part of me is thinking I should not be seeing a naked woman even if it is for artist purposes but another part of me is thinking its just art

I seem to have found a grey area. I'm not sure what I should do

I don't have any problems with artistic nudity, but you need to do what you feel you need to do. I don't think there's a universal should/shouldn't in this situation.

However, if it causes you to stumble there's nothing wrong with opting out..

What crishmael and little_tigress have said--there is nothing morally wrong with it, but if your conscience is saying no, don't argue with it or try to find excuses to do it anyway. Just opt out--there's strength in doing that.

To the OP, if your a believer, opt out. You can't be a man of faith if you can't even stand the scrutiny of not wanting to draw a naked woman. Man up and do whats right.

I am not sure if this will help but I believe that the objectification of women (and men) is, well, I don't have a strong enough word. If you feel that this situation, in any way, objectifies the subject then I think you should excuse yourself. However, I think (and I am sure this is more obvious to you) that it is art (I would not say 'just art') and I think there can be a 'deeper' exploration than say you might find in a skin mag. Plus, I think we could all use being a little more comfortable with nakedness...lol... it seems so repressive.

I agree with this 100%; if you can go through this without stumbling, I honestly don't see an issue. However, if you struggle with lust, or think this may cause you to stumble in anyway, don't do it. Pray on it bro, pray on it big time.

If it doesn't cause him to stumble, is there anything wrong with the situation? Is all nudity wrong? If it in anyway causes him to sin, then I'd agree he should do what's right and walk away from it. But if it doesn't cause him to sin (ie; like seeing one of them nude greek or roman statues), then I don't think it's a problem dude.

It's fine. You won't be able to lust and record the subject matter on the paper at the same time, the mind doesn't work like that. Besides, if she looks like most of the models I have drawn, she will be ugly.

Um... you might want to reread my post. I was saying the exact opposite its not wrong or sinful.

I just recognize that not everyone has the same strengths in the same areas. There's a reason Romans 14 was written.

No, its not as 'grey' as you think it is. God wants us to treat our sexuality in a very high regard and maintain it with intregity, honor, and some sacredness....things which are foreign to our culture . Further, you are to try to stay away from lust as a man. Finally, you are not to encourage immorality in another...that being, the Woman at hand.

This is going to be a test to see if your CHristian Walk truly means anything to you , or if you will cave into the pressure of conforming to our cultures philosophies and/or your flesh. If in fact you are the only CHristian in the class, there is an opportunity for you to show that the Christian Faith is above and beyond that of worldly things and that you can hold your head up high knowing you didnt fail God and his loving, protective moral mandates for your life. It will be good testimony if you allow it .

I read your post correctly. Why don't we all just walk around naked? Maybe because God clothed us for a reason? But all you guys obviously know better. But since there's nothing wrong with it, why don't we all upload some pics? It'll be fun, we can all draw each other and exchange paintings.
