• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When the dnc voted to put the reference to God in their platform, there was so much booing from the crowd. How shocking! Where will it all end? I just could not believe that so many people would be so disrespectful at that vote.
Did anyone else see that part? Wonder if the media will play it or cover it up.

Most of the media declined to cover it. Don't look for it to be referred to today on those channels, either. You know the ones--those that spent all day saying that the faces at the Republican convention were all white, while they themselves refused to air the speeches by Latinos and African-Americans at the Republican National Convention.

I saw that it was a two part amendment, and what I thought the controversy was when Jerusalem was considered the capital of Israel. This is a highly political issue of the on-going talks between Palestine/Israel/UN. And also, a hot issue among many Democrats, especially being caught off guard with the motion of the amendment and vote.

It wasn't, I believe, about God being in the platform. As to why former Governor Strickland (OHIO), a ordained Methodist minister, who chaired the committee had to offer an amendment and not have the full platform ready to go prior to convention I do not know.

The vote against was vociferously led by some very aggressive members of a group called "Arab Americans" whose chief interest was the de-recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
Thanks Mr Dave, I like to read what GB writers think of it, I vote it the best article I've read thus far about this issue. Like the way the writer spoke of our US Christian history, hadn't seen that point of view in US news.
But I really think the delegates were ticked off by Jerusalem as Israel's capital and the quick call to order for the proposal without deliberation, then a quick vote, (3 times).

Glad to see President Obama ordered it back into print.

I still do not know why my former governor (Ted Strickland)who chaired the committee and who is a ordained United Methodist minister failed to see the omittance. Maybe he relied of the staff and didn't proofread, I don't know, that doesn't sound like him though. He seemed embarrassed about it.

show me where that happened.

It was reported all over the place. You should pay closer attention if these things matter to you.

Obama wasn't officially nominated as candidate until Tuesday, the change took place on Wednesday, Obama accepted and gave speech on Thursday night. So how could have Obama overseen what the committee did last year?

Uh, he's been the the head of the party for four years as well as president of the United States. :sigh:

well, thanks. I thought you couldn't back it up. And you may be right about one thing, it really doesn't matter to me. For one, God doesn't belong in politics and the Palestinians and Israelis need to solve their own issues.

And I have to ask, which God is it that the RNC promotes? Romney's or the one we follow? Since Romney is the leader of RNC, I guess they are promoting the Mormon God who had sex with Mary. That is more of an issue than what the DNC did, but we don't hear anything about it, and Fox News isn't telling. ^_^

Religious bigotry belongs on one of the theology forums, I believe. This one is supposed to be for moderate conversation, isn't it?

You tell me where is the bigotry? Surely it can not be in what I posted, that was factual.
Maybe you are pointing to something nonfactual in what you stated. I suppose that could be a form of bigotry when pointing a finger at the DNC and let the RNC promote a false God. Yes, that must be what you are referring to, right?

I'm just going to respect the nature of the forum and not be baited into an argument like that. Sorry.

All that was needed was to identify what you charged. You see the point now, perhaps. God doesn't belong in politics, and to which God is being represented? Unless of course, you adhere to universalism, if so, I can see why you make the charge of bigotry. And adherents of universalism belong to the unorthodox forum, agreed?

I don't think they made it plain what God they were going to refer to when they just voted to put that back in the wording of the document. If it was the God of Islam, we don't know that. It was just that at the mention of God there seems to be quite a bit of booing from the crowd. I didn't say it was right or wrong, just that I was shocked. And wondered if any of the press might be interested in covering that point of difference also.
The Jerusalem thing was not in the OP.

That's so, but we all often use the word "God" without any explanation to mean the God of the Bible. On the other hand, the effort of the Democratic National Convention to appease militant Islam was widely reported, so you may be right. The Muslim delegates were as offended at the removal of the reference to God as the Christians in the house were.

There's been hardly any since your earlier post, so maybe that answers the question.

Writer of article is no shock to me; Todd is the host of Fox News & Commentary. He occupies the far right side of the Fox News Corner of the World.

I'm not shocked that the far-right extreme-wing in form of church would attempt to subvert the DNC message. Nice try! Like having war protestor's march on RNC, and complaining that the RNC hates peace because it supports (causes) many wars.
