Of course humans are animals. Even if one were to ignore all the evidence, all the DNA, and all the things that split rock said, and instead went only by what is in one or another of the various Bibles, the scripture itself is clear that humans are animals. A good example is in Ecclesiastes 3:18,

I said in my heart with regard to the children of man that God is testing them that they may see that they themselves are but beasts.

After all, what else are we? Angels? no. plants? no. Gods? Come on.

This is why the churches have also recognized this for centuries or more, as NSP pointed out as well.
