• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is it hard?

Do you find it hard to try not to sin everyday? What do you to help you?
If I understand the Christian idea of "sin" correctly, it´s another way of saying "missing the mark of perfection".
Personally, I don´t seem to have any problem with not being perfect. The task of permanently improving is actually what keeps me going. I imagine perfection to be quite boring.

When I was a Christian, yes I did find it hard not to sin every day. By that I mean I found it extremely difficult to be perfect every day. This inevitably took an emotional toll on me. But perhaps that's because, in my case, I felt conscious of sin, or even the potential for sin, at every single moment. It came to dominate my thoughts to the point of obsession. And it lead to distress when, each day, I failed to be "perfect".

Congratulation. It is a good sign.

There is no better way but keep trying not to and pray a lot. Eventually, you will overcome little by little. When you do, it feels real good.

The important thing is: Do not let it be a burden to you. The price of sin has already been paid in full.

That is why you need a "savior". Why did you walk out of Christianity?

Don't jump to the imaginary thing like "perfection". It is not that serious yet.

Sin means something you do not feel right, but you still do it.

I don't believe in God, so I have no everyday problem with sinning (in fact, I don't even believe in the concept of sin). I simply try to be a decent person, and that's it.

A criminal is also trying to be a decent person. Why is yours better than his?

In what way is a criminal trying to be a decent person while at the same time engaging in criminal activity?

Because I'm better at it than him, maybe? Because according to pretty much every system of morality, being a criminal is worse than not being a criminal? Because I hurt less people than criminals do? Because I don't let little kids get hooked on drugs?

By the way, you can quote multiple people in one post. I suggest you start doing this. Having to read three posts from you in a row is getting annoying.

Well, success is typically not measured by how hard you´ve tried but by the result.
If, however, success is not the criterium two people who try equally hard are doing equally good (the results may differ e.g. because one of them has some kind of handicap).

Some are doing (bad) things to make themselves better. Some succeeded, some did not.

That is a bad thing to do.

Because I found myself agreeing less and less with the beliefs of Christianity and theism in general.

So you are going deeper into agony (feel that you are a sinful man).

I think you got it.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that? Do you mean that I'm going deeper into agony because I find myself agreeing less and less with the beliefs of theistic religions?
