  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi All,

Has anyone read or came across the following author of the following books he has written and debated with Jewish rabbis answering there objections to Jesus, how he was a false prophet, that Jesus tryed to do away with the Torah etc etc. Michael Brown makes some very solid and honest references supporting Jesus as the Messiah (Christ). Has anyone read any of his books at all such as the following below?

Answering Jewish Objections to Jesus: Volume 1-5 by Dr Michael brown which can be found on amazon. com

What you recommend his apologetic books ?

Thanks

He has been mentioned here many times and seems to be well regarded.
Isn't he a traditional Christian rather than a Messianic?

Interestingly, I couldn't see his name on the Sticky listing various books and resources etc. No idea why that is - I expected to find him there.

Love Dr.Brown and the books he has put out over the years. All of them spot on when it comes to showing Christ as a the Jewish Messiah.

Some of his works can be found in the "Useful Resources" sticky (here)...and more on his debates with other Jewish believers was shared here in another discussion.

As one of the leading/premier scholars within Messianic Judaism, the works of Messianic Jew, Dr.Michael Brown, are also good material for reference..as it concerns evangelism/outreach amongst Jewish people. Answering Jewish Objections to Jesus: New Testament Objections and Answering Jewish Objections to Jesus: General and Historical Objections are very timely. Dr.Michael Brown has present in his ministry very relevant/ amazing stories on his site, as seen here concerning hearing stories of Jews from America, Israel and around the world, how they encountered Messiah, the trials they faced, and the miracles they experienced. He also shared on his website his own experiences---and things that helped him in his own understanding when it came to his Jewish heritage and things he'd say in objection to Yeshua.

Has anyone listened or read any books on the objections of Rabbis such as Tovia Singer, Shmuley Boteach and Immanuel Schochet. What do you think of there literature objecting to Jesus as the Messiah ?
Not many good reasons, IMHO, from them on why Christ wasn't the Messiah or why others could be the Messiah. Dr.Brown did a pretty good job in addressing them..

I read several articles and watched some videos, mostly by Tovia Singer. He tends to stretch the truth at times and holds NT scripture to different standards than OT scripture. They also take many scriptures out of context or use bad translations to back make their point. It isn't hard to find many flaws in counter-missionary arguments after you've seen a few of them and looked up the scriptures involved.

Thanks all for the feedback, Easy G I am unable to respond to private messages as I have not reached over 50posts as of yet. I want to say Thank you for that information.

Would anyone have good literature on Daniel 9:24-27 Regarding the 70week Prophecy ?.

What is the (7weeks)49years for ? and when do we start counting down?
Is there a response I can read/learn regarding counter-missionaries on Daniel 9:24-27 for Jesus, which they claim is for Cyrus or someone else ? Has anyone looked into Judaism's response to Daniel 9:24-27 ? and what was the Messianic/Christian response ?.

Reason for my questions, is I like to find out the view from the two different sides, and ask God to help me see the truth which one is the correct interpretation.

Thanks in advance,

I can't really say much of what the sages teach about the Dan. 9 passage, but I have heard that after the first century some advised to quit trying to figure out the times because the messiah had not come......or so they thought, anyway. (Disclaimer: I have not seen where it was written that the sages told the people not to figure from that passage, I have only heard that they did this. And am just passing it on for what it's worth, just interest.)

According to his web site, both he and his wife are Jewish believers in Jesus

Ministry Profile

Dr. Brown is a national and international speaker on themes of spiritual renewal and cultural reformation, and he has debated Jewish rabbis, agnostic professors, and gay activists on radio, TV, and college campuses.
He is widely considered to be the world’s foremost Messianic Jewish apologist.

He and his wife Nancy, who is also a Jewish believer in Jesus, have been married since 1976. They have two daughters and four grandchildren.

But for me, a Jew (even a non-religious Jew), how could I believe in Jesus? (Please remember: At that time, I didn’t realize that his Hebrew name was Yeshua and that his mother’s Hebrew name was Miriam, or that “Christ” meant “Messiah,” or that he came into the world to save his Jewish people, or that he lived and died as a faithful Jew.) For me, Jesus was only for the Gentiles. (Again, you have to excuse my ignorance!)

What would be the official understanding of judaisms interpretation of Daniel 9:24-27 ?

It would appear that they discovered that they've made a mistake, but unfortunately, for them, they don't have a solution, except to not use that timing for the appearance of their messiah! Or, they must admit that Yeshua was, indeed, the Messiah, which they refuse to do. Soooo, there is no solution for them but to scratch their heads in frustration and dismay.
(But there IS coming a time, when they will SEE their mistake and then they will come to the same solutions that we have come to. It's soon, but not yet.)

Daniel
9:24: Lit. "seventy weeks," this phrase refers to seventy times seven years, or 490 years. This refers to the seventy years of exile that have passed from Destruction of the First Temple until this vision, and the entire 420 year period of the Second Temple (Rashi)
9:25: The "septets" refer to full seven-year periods. The prince of this verse is Cyrus, who gave permission to rebuild Jerusalem and the Temple. He ascended to the throne fifty-two years (seven full "septets" plus three years) after the exile had begun. From then until the second destruction of Jerusalem was 438 years, or sixty-two septets and four years (Rashi)
9:26: I.e., Agrippa, the last Jewish king, at the end of the Second Temple Era. After his death, the prince of this verse, the Roman Titus, would command the destruction of the Temple, which will not be rebuilt until after the War of Gog and Magog, in Messianic times (Rashi)
9:27: The Roman emperor would make a treaty with the Jewish nation for seven years; but for the second half of that term the Romans would violate that covenant and impede the Temple service. The "mute abomination," i.e., a temple of idolatry, was erected by the emperor Hadrian on the temple mount (Rashi)

The official Rabbinic position is that it is off limits. Supposedly the Sanhedrin 97b says that the rabbis put a curse on those who try to calculate the dates from Daniel 9 because they can only lead to Yeshua as the Messiah.

Not true. Never take quotes from the Talmud with out being well versed in the Talmud. I'm not and I'm sure no one on this forum is.

It is not forbidden to study Daniel 9, just google and you will find sites that give an explanation. Just be aware many come from counter missionary sites, which is why I did not provide any links.
