  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

As my son was there twice, he had a lot to say about the Iraqi people. First of all, they didn't want to be "liberated". Second, establishing "democracy" in a place that has known nothing but various tribal wars over millenia is an exercise in futility. Third, has democracy really been established there? No it has not.

And last but not least (for those who have not read the constitution), our government is not a pure democracy. It is a republic. There is a difference.

We had no business going over there. We had no business in VietNam. We had no business in Korea. They are not our wars to fight. But...the US has to be the "big brother" of the world. Communism in the former USSR collapsed under its own weight. China, North Korea and Cuba are still communist for a variety of factors, not the least of which is that the hoi polloi there are afraid of losing their power. Its not much different in the USA either. Those in positions of power are afraid to lose them. They LIKE the power. They don't give a fat rat's butt about the "electorate", they only care about who is going to line their pockets during or after their time in power. If you think for one minute that any of these clowns running for office give a hoot about you, think again. They're all bought and paid for by whoever's writing the checks. They'll say and do anything to get elected. And yet the sheeple buy into it every 4 years when 1600 Pennsylvania Ave is up for grabs. Each side demonizes the other when the truth is that both sides are dumber than your average doorknob and lost the ability to think critically some time ago.
So...why don't the sheeple rise up and write in their own candidate like "none of the above" and toss the whole mess into turmoil? No...if you're a "Christian" you vote a straight GOP ticket because the other side wants to "kill the baybeeez". The GOP wants the baybeeez born but then doesn't care if they have food, shelter, health care or an education.
Roe v. Wade was in 1973 folks...its still the law of the land. Neither side has been able to overturn it.
Being a single-issue voter has caused more trouble than its worth. Honest, you won't burn in hell if you vote for a Democrat. Look at the bigger issues (and there are much bigger issues out there).

The plan was to "exact reimbursement." We didn't do it!
Reparations were never part of the Bush plan. The goal was to restore the free flow of oil at market prices, to remove the world's leading sponsor of terrorism, and to bring democracy to the Middle East. To a large extent the Arab Spring was the result of people demanding change. In most cases it was a change for the worse, but with proper education and a taste of freedom, the radicals won't be able to maintain power indefinately.
Our enemy has plenty of resolve, to wait it out while we announce when they can freely take over, as if nothing ever changed. No amount of US resolve will ever change the Afghan populace. (Maybe if we actually dominated them for a while, showing them how a progressive lifestyle can actually work, they'd get the hang of it?)
We're going to be in Afghanistan until we hunt the Taliban to extinction or at least destroy them as a military threat. We just need to keep them as a partner, not as a nation under seige.

I was there once, and my husband 4 times, but obviously I don't know what I'm talking about. $10 says RTD has never seen the inside of a military uniform in his life.

On this much we agree:

Those in positions of power are afraid to lose them. They LIKE the power. They don't give a fat rat's butt about the "electorate", they only care about who is going to line their pockets during or after their time in power. If you think for one minute that any of these clowns running for office give a hoot about you, think again. They're all bought and paid for by whoever's writing the checks. They'll say and do anything to get elected.

I'm glad you see that. For that matter, what US politician in the last 100 years, above the State level, has stuck to their campaign platform?

.why don't the sheeple rise up and write in their own candidate like "none of the above" and toss the whole mess into turmoil?

I'm not sure that tossing the whole mess into turmoil should be the goal, but clearly it's better than an armed revolution, and it just might wake somebody up? (Clearly that's all Ron Paul has hoped for) Someone else posited the idea of a write in ballot, and the idea is starting to make more sense to me along these lines.

No...if you're a "Christian" you vote a straight GOP ticket because the other side wants to "kill the baybeeez". The GOP wants the baybeeez born but then doesn't care if they have food, shelter, health care or an education.

Honestly, what issue is bigger than the federal reserve bank being brought under control? And after that, the IRS code being transformed into something reasonable? And on par with that, the legislature being bound by the laws they write, including whatever social security and health benefits we the people subsist on? And other regulatory agencies no longer violating constitutional separation of powers?

These are the primary issues of our day, and the media wants to see to it they are pushed aside.

You can bet your annual salary AND your life savings! Military wouldn't take me and if they were foolish enough to, my drill Sargeant would wind up dead. I don't play nicely with foolishness. (I will be inside one soon though, for a performance)

This has nothing to do with any of the thread's subject matter

As my son was there twice, he had a lot to say about the Iraqi people.
My nephew was there, also.
First of all, they didn't want to be "liberated".
Funny, I didn't see them running back INTO the prisons. I seem to recall people saying "God bless George Bush." I've heard this disengenuous diatribe before. You actually BELIEVE the Iraqi people wanted to remain under Hussein's thumb?

Then why did they hang him?
And last but not least (for those who have not read the constitution), our government is not a pure democracy. It is a republic.
Straw man arguiment. Nobody said we were a democracy.
We had no business going over there.
Re-read the 17 reasons listed in the Use of Force Resolution.
We had no business in VietNam.
Opinion.
We had no business in Korea.
Name one person in South Korea that agrees with you.
They are not our wars to fight. But...the US has to be the "big brother" of the world.
We learned during WWII what happens if you don't oppose fascism.
Communism in the former USSR collapsed under its own weight.
Only because Ronald Reagan saw how to destroy them. Socialism destroys all naions eventually.
So...why don't the sheeple rise up and write in their own candidate like "none of the above" and toss the whole mess into turmoil?
Because either Obama or Romney will be sworn in as president in January.

Straw man argument. Show me any intelligent person who thinks people should not have food, shelter, health care or an education. The problem is, libs think that they should take the fruits of everyone's labors and divide these things out as they see fit. The rest of us understand that most people are perfectly capable of providing for themselves, provided they don't sit around all day smoking dope and thinking themselves profound.
Roe v. Wade was in 1973 folks...its still the law of the land. Neither side has been able to overturn it.
Yet. It's bad law.
Being a single-issue voter has caused more trouble than its worth. Honest, you won't burn in hell if you vote for a Democrat.
How you vote won't condemn you, but what is in your heart may.

BB, I see your point. In order to actually be socialist, as someone is claiming, yes he would have to at least have plans to take over all private companies.

Maybe we should replace the socialist accusation, with "policy we don't like, that seems to move us towards socialism?"

How? Specifically?

To the first, Ronnie Raygun bluffed about US power, causing USSR to outspend themselves militarily, thinking they were merely trying to keep up with us. It's worth noting that he did this at considerable expense to his own reputation, but that can also be considered reckless with the reputation of the US. That much aside - it would've been a brilliant plan, if it was indeed a plan. (I don't think it was, but it can be better to be lucky than to be good)

I worked in the defense industry during Ronnie's 2nd term...the 600 ship navy. He was all about the "show of force". Now the Russians have it all over us...who's depending on whom for access to the ISS? But...the space program is a money waster, right? I mean, who wants to be an engineer, a scientist, a designer?

The dumbing down of the USA...teaching kids what to think instead of how to think (guilty on both sides of the aisle) will be our downfall.

The Russians have a greater show of force than the US? I believe we currently still have naval superiority, worldwide
Feel free to believe whatever gets you through the night.

In terms of force projection, thats probably true, but in a set piece knock down drag out in home waters, the Chinese probably win, and the Russians are not insignifficant.
