  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Failures? They all passed in the House! That's hardly a failure. He has no control over a do-nothing, care-for-nothing-but-reelection Senate with a bare Democratic majority that won't even consider passing a budget that will work, while their moron leader in the White House has only presented one official document that could legitimately be called a budget in three and a half years and he couldn't even get the Democrats to vote for it!
oh my, Ryan's junk passed the House, what a surprise.

No wonder with crap from Ryan's desk there is gridlock.

You can try to twist his words, and take them out of context, but their meaning remains clear.
The fact is, nobody succeeds in any significant way, without co operating with, and getting help along the way ,from other people.
Any successful person, no matter how bright or egotistical they may be, will agree.

Fortunately, Obama will win in november.

Bush was probably the most humble president in recent history. He rarely used first person singular in speeches, unlike both Clinton and Obama. Admit it. Like all libs, you started hating Bush when he said he admired Jesus Christ.
I have asked you if you are going to standby this remark.
It is not the truth, it is inflammatory and insulting. What are you going to do?

Naw, I started hating Bush when he got us into a war that had no point, no clear objectives and no clear path to get out. Hated him more when my son got sent over there twice.

But, then again, you wouldn't be bothered to actually dialog with us "libs" because you're convinced we're servants of Satan...that's cool...we'll see at the end.

I retract the statement due to its personal nature and I don't know you personally. The fact remains that the sentiment of liberals changed from opposition to political ideology to visceral hatred immediately after he answered the question and stated his favorite philosopher was Jesus Christ. It became such a vile hatred that Jonathan Chait wrote an article defending the hate. Every time President Bush mentioned his personal faith the left went crazy with hatred. The left repeated deliberately lied about what he said and even made an enormous headline that read BUSH KNEW after the 9/11 attacks.

Despite the crimes, bad behavior and adultery of Bill Clinton, the liberals loved him. No wonder when Obama attacked people who cling to their guns and religion the libs were dancing in the street.

If you'd care to actually dialog with some of us "libs" you might find that we are moved, not so much by political ideology as we are by compassion for the rest of the human race. Religion masqueraiding as political ideology is quite sickening. Where is it written that to be a "true blue Christian" one must also be willing to swallow whatever the GOP throws out, no matter how bad it smells? Conversely, if one is not a true follower of the GOP that makes one part of the great unwashed, God-hating liberal crowd?

No my friend, I find absolutely no contradiction between my political leanings (such that they are) and my rather conservative Christian beliefs. Christ told the story of the good Samaritan. He also said "whatsoever you do for the least of these...".

I am a God-fearing, gun-toting heterosexual, happily married feminist who believes that ALL should have health care, especially those most on the margins of society. I firmly believe that health care is a human right. I am pro-life, from natural birth to natural death. I am anti-death penalty, pro-military and anti-professional politicians. I am educated, employed at a wage above the median family wage. I've been through hard times, very hard times, and pulled myself up by the grace of God and the help of others who were willing to extend a hand when I needed it.

If that makes me a "lib" that isn't worth the sweat off your brow, then so be it.

I live in what you would call a "socialist" country. Just want to clue you in a bit on what that actually means.

That is quite different than what it would mean here. Besides, no one likes change! (I do think the only way we'll reduce the cost of health care is socialization)

While the US has spent 4.7% of its GDP to protect nations like Sweden from being overrun by other nations like the former Soviet Union, Sweden contributes only 1.2% of its GDP for its own defense. Like many European nations, they hide behind a curtain of American military power and spend their tax money on social engineering.

Nope, that can't be relavent. Amurica is ee-vil

And the Swedes and any other country should not pay a dime into defense if the US military is there protecting them, I wouldn't. That's the world domination policy of the US, no fault to the Swedes.

In what way are we "dominating" Sweden, or anyone else? We collect tribute, in excess of our expenditures in their Country? We don't even have a call on Iraqi oil!

Late to the thread, but I assume it has been pointed out repeatedly that Obama didn't actually say that? That the campaign add in question had been edited?

Umm...seems that folks didn't bother to read the WHOLE speech, just the soundbites...and then got their shorts in a knot...

I live in what you would call a "socialist" country. Just want to clue you in a bit on what that actually means.

For our family it means or has meant the following:
1. My wife was at home for 18 months on maternal leave when each of our two children were born. She received 80% of her salary and her job was secure.
2. Our children had access to some of the best child care in the world at a 5th of the actual cost.
3. Our entire family has free access to quality health care.
4. Our son is pursuing a five years Masters Degree in Civil Engineering at no cost...ZERO. He is actually given about $400 a month to help with living expenses while he is studying...from the government.
5. If you are sick or umemployed you are entitled to benefits you can survive on. Those these benefits have been cut back some in recent years.
6. By law, everyone gets 5 weeks of paid vacation. I have 6 and a half weeks now as I am over 50 years old.
7. Generally speaking...everything is of quality...infrastructure, housing, mass transportation system, everything.
Nice. Only problem is, all that wonderful stuff comes with an income tax rate of 57.77% -- more than twice the US middle income tax bracket rate.

Nothing is free. You have all those benefits because people who make more than you have paid for it, at the expense of their own ability to live at the level they wish to live.

Perhaps Swedes believe that is equitable. Most in the US don't, though it is getting to be a lesser majority every year, thanks to the lies the socialist/Marxist Occupy Movement and the hidden remnants of the likes of ACORN have told and managed to insinuate into the collective psyche of US citizens.

Enjoy your socialism. We want no part of it. Oh, there are some on here who will say they think it's great. It isn't their money that will be taken to pay for it, however.

Right. Because exacting a tribute is the only possible way to dominate a country *rolls eyes* Before you answer take to seconds to research American free trade acts and the way it uses "most favoured trading partner" statuses to get what it wants. You may also like to look into things like trade embargoes, and such. As for your incredulous questioning "In what way are we "dominating" Sweden, or anyone else?", well, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Japan are all heavily occupied by American forces, and there are about 110 countries world wide with American troops garrisoned in them. Thats pretty dominating.

And it's all because instead of worshiping God, you worship mammon. If higher taxes means that ALL have basic shelter, food and care, then good, I'll happily give. Heck, I don't live on all my income anyway.

Those "Christians" who go ballistic at paying higher taxes are showing who or what they truly worship...

Tee hee, I havn't seen anyone blaming ACORN for anything in a while.

So, I suppose you're in the top tax bracket, and you'd rather pay for everything on a user pays basis, hmmm? Or are we going to discover you're actually quite happy to use socialist services that others' taxes pay for, you just think you should be exempt?

I have seen people here seriously try to argue that "render unto Caesar" is actually telling Christians NOT to pay taxes. Watch this space...

*whispers* don't mention how the apostles and early church llived in a state of communal property, i.e. communism. Unless you want to see first hand a scanner's headsplode.

Nope, doesn't count as dominating at all. We don't profit from them. Supporting them, more like it. And to the poster before you, citing Sweden's tax rate; what is the actual tax rate in the US?

Previously, economists have concluded that a flat tax rate of 15% would yield more $ than Gov't could spend. I fear that has changed since ...
