  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Parasites like Romney build nothing, give nothing, and do nothing but export jobs and cannibalize companies that other people helped to build. This worship of wall street and all the lowlifes who manipulate money is sickening and obscene.
Speaking without knowing.

Since inception, Bain has invested in or acquired hundreds of companies including AMC Entertainment, Aspen Education Group, Brookstone, Burger King, Burlington Coat Factory, Clear Channel Communications, Domino's Pizza, DoubleClick, Dunkin' Donuts, D&M Holdings, Guitar Center, Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), Sealy, The Sports Authority, Staples, Toys "R" Us, Warner Music Group and The Weather Channel.

Can't find a single one of those that has engaged in cannibalization of assets or been sold overseas, other than AMC and that wasn't Bain that thought it was a wise idea for AMC to sell itself to a Japanese firm. The idiots here in Kansas City that own AMC thought that was a good idea.

Having said that, I came across this op-ed piece which explains why people should be upset about Obama's stupidity, but the libs and socialists on here will never get it.

The dream devalued | The Columbus Dispatch
In just a few sentences, Obama managed to devalue the core American values of hard work and entrepreneurship, not to mention the incredible sacrifices of time and money by thousands of Americans who each year launch new businesses, bearing all the risks and losses themselves.

No one who has been paying attention to Obama and his positions should be surprised at these latest statements. After running on hope and change in 2008, he has governed as a partisan class warrior. It’s a cynical divide-and-conquer strategy from a president who knows he can’t run for re-election on his abysmal record of mounting debt and unending unemployment.

Clearly, government has a role in helping to support the private sector: Using our tax money, government oversees the building of infrastructure, enforces the rule of law and, ideally, stays out of the way after laying the basic groundwork so that the private sector may flourish unimpeded by onerous regulations.

Obama simply doesn’t understand that government is not the source of American prosperity; it is simply a supporting player. The driver is the individual with a dream and a passion, such as Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs, who revolutionized personal computing by building the first Apple computer in a garage
.

If anything, the failure of this administration’s economic policies — including massive stimulus spending, disastrous government investments, such as its loan guarantee to Solyndra, and other interventions into the private sector — proves the wrongheadedness of Obama’s big-government, Keynesian approach.

President Ronald Reagan 26 years ago called the American Dream “the heart and soul of America; it’s the promise that keeps our nation forever good and generous, a model and hope to the world."

It’s unfortunate to see a president today discount that ideal, which necessarily involves risk and reward for individual effort.

So, how many deaths are attributed to Capitalism? I don't see how you can attribute deaths to a economic system, show me how, thanks.
The reference was to Sweden doing nothing when the greatest evil the world had ever faced had most of the world in turmoil. Rather than opposing the Nazi expansion, Sweden profited from it. I pointed out that Sweden does NOT provide for its defense. Like most of Europe, it hides behind the American soldiers that it despises. It's easy to have money to spare for social works when you don't have to provide for your national defense.
How well does socialism work in Europe? If you are diagnosed with cancer in the US the survival rate is 63% for women and 66% for men. Among European nations, it is 56% for women and 47% for men. Socialized medicine is the reason people of wealth in other nations come to the US for treatment. When the government is in control all the added costs of bureaucracy most be paid for by higher taxes, rationed services or both.

It took three major powers to subdue the Nazis and Imperial Japan. What was Sweden to do? Looks like they survived it. And the Swedes and any other country should not pay a dime into defense if the US military is there protecting them, I wouldn't. That's the world domination policy of the US, no fault to the Swedes.

At least Europeans receive treatment for cancer, how many po' folk in US can say that?

And you know we do not have what the Europeans have. Medical Care in the US is still a for-profit enterprise. It is just that now more people will become insured, which makes the Health Insurance companies happy. :)

The American Dream is different to each person. It could be the dream of one family to be able to afford medical coverage. And now they have that opportunity.

The American Dream to Willard Romney is to be president and cut & gut the country at the whims of president Monson.

Exactly.....getting preferential treatment because you have money is sin. Those countries which do not give such preferncial treatment at trying to level the board when it comes to which life is more worthy in the eyes of God.

And in a counter point......you dont see those greedy swedes or Danes flocking to the US for our 0% income tax for job destroyers like Romeny. Nah, instead they choose to stay in a country and pay higher taxes to live among poor ppl who are thankful for their great contribution to society.

That point of the wealthy from abroad seeking medical in US has been over played by the anti-ACA crowd. The wealthy will cross the four corners seeking cures, while the not so wealthy use what they have. Governments who provide medical to it's citizens are doing a great service.

He has a point. Nobody gets to where they are in life without the influence of others. If one is successful in school, they were helped along that path by their parents, teachers, etc. If one is successful in business, they were helped along by mentors who guided them. If one is successful in parenting, they were helped by others who set an example. There is no such thing as "individual" success. Each person's success or failure is influenced by those around them.
The Wright Brothers...there were 2 of them who fed into each other's dreams and ideas. They had the ability to take off and go down to Kitty Hawk. They didn't do it alone. Who ran their shop while they went to NC? Who sold them the materials for their first plane?
It is quite true that no man is an island. If I stuck you on some deserted island, would you be able to be successful? No, you would not. You would not have mentors, suppliers, competition.
A top athlete may have all the talent in the world, but if that talent isn't taught, coached, practiced and mentored, the talent is useless.

Just another misconstrued bunch of sour grapes here folks...use your own brains and ability to think critically instead of buying into some other misinformed, biased, talking head's opinion of a speech...

edited because my fingers were not fast enough to keep up with my thoughts...

I don't think we NEED a talking head to decipher what O was saying. What he said is not without truth but the way he said it was what kind of sticks in the craw, like he was daring someone to take it out of context, which, IMO, is how he REALLY meant it.

services are always rationed when one has to deal with the medical insurance people in getting prescriptions filled, approval for treatment, etc.
I'd rather pay a tax and receive treatment than to fight with an insurance person over the phone when I'm ill.

That's why I've always opposed using US soldiers to protect those who refuse to protect themselves. They are ungrateful and actually resent our presence. We would have been better served to pull out and leave them to the mercy of the Soviets. All the dependant socialists would have cratered the Soviet economy a decade before.

I'm glad I live in a country of men, not sheep.

ah, you should read some more on military history of the Swedes before referring them to sheep. Also, they have supported the war effort on terror worldwide unlike some of our NATO friends.

They are grateful for being who they are, and I would think they have much pride in their nation. For they should have, for their economy is above par. I hadn't heard of them begging the E.U. for funds like Spain and Greece. Their military is well maintained and going from conscription to much of what we have, all-volunteer.

Also, define 'socialists' as you used it here. Many times that is used to be derogatory, not necessarily in form with reality. Are you meaning that the Swedes have socialist government programs for it's citizens or the form of economic system?

Socialism is socialism; a system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole. It is unlike capitalisim in that there is far less incentive to create wealth since it will be taken by the government and re-distributed to those who do not earn it in exchange for votes and political power. It continues to advance until the government runs out of other people's money. Those who produce wealth must either find a way to shield it from taxation or they will lose it. Robbing Peter to pay Paul will always be a popular idea with Paul, but sooner or later Peter will pack up and leave.

COntrary to liberal lies, most millionaires in America are self made. The American Dream is the acheivement of wealth through one's own efforts. In a capitalist system there are no permanent classes. You can be born dirt poor and retire a billionaire. That's why this fledgeling nation feeds and protects half the world. There are golf courses older than the US.

There are many nations throughout Europe who embrace socialism. I would encourage anyone who embraces socialism to choose one and move there.

Thanks for your explanation. It is clear to me you know little of Swedish military history of which you offhandedly dismiss and that your idea's of what Socialism is and where it thrives today are skewed.

No, I won't move from the US but I do embrace social safety net programs for the citizens. And I'll vote for as many as I can. And since you oppose protecting the world, then we can cut the defense budget to provide for more of what you call 'socialism'. :)

In other words, those who adhere to the current policy statements and platforms of the Democratic National Committee, as dictated by the White House, would meet the definition of American socialist. It's not derogatory. It's the fact of the views of the party, and its most vociferous supporters, such as the Occupy Movement. Why do you suppose that "movement" has disappeared from the news? Because the power-brokering socialists have put pressure on the movement leaders not to call attention to themselves during the election year for fear of turning the electorate against the Democrats. But the movement hasn't disappeared. It is still as active as ever, and is working to bring socialism to this country as surely as their president is doing the same.

Oh, that's cute IsJustMe. As I recall, the GOP House has signed the checks for several years now.
The Democrats have controlled Congress since 2006, and only lost the house in 2010. It's the job of the Senate to pass a budget. Princess Harry can't seem to accomplish that because Obama is too idiotic to put a reasonable budget together.

First, you should understand that in US we haven't a royal family, right? Sure, "W" thought he was a king but that was in his own mind.

So, who exactly develops a budget? Guess Mr. Ryan is just window dressing. Guess you do not wish to speak of Ryan's failures.

Bush was probably the most humble president in recent history. He rarely used first person singular in speeches, unlike both Clinton and Obama. Admit it. Liberals started hating Bush when he said he admired Jesus Christ.

The president (not a member of the House) is supposed to submit a budget by the first Monday in February.
The last time the Senate passed a budget was on April 29, 2009.
Obama proposed a FY2012 budget last year, and the Senate voted it down 97–0.
House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan came up with a budget (Obama's job) and the Senate rejected it 57–40 in May 2011, with no Democrats voting for it.
The problem is that Democrats will not support a budget that isn't riddled with earmarks and pork barrel projects.

Failures? They all passed in the House! That's hardly a failure. He has no control over a do-nothing, care-for-nothing-but-reelection Senate with a bare Democratic majority that won't even consider passing a budget that will work, while their moron leader in the White House has only presented one official document that could legitimately be called a budget in three and a half years and he couldn't even get the Democrats to vote for it!

sure, that must be the truth, for you say it is. And in seeing how you are quick to judge what you don't like I think I'll seek another opinion before accepting yours. Thanks.
