Somehow this has been overlooked by the media - but Saudia is trading oil to China for shelf ready missles, no matter what happens or what shortage may exist.

Hal Lindsey reported on this today - interesting - lines up with what the Bible says about the 200 million man army marching down the Euphrates - it will be for the oil.

I'm curious about a couple points:

Hal says "Middle East news sources", which ones? This would be very helpful to see.

But then he says:

"In return, Saudi Arabia will guarantee an unlimited supply of oil to China through the year 2035. And the oil will continue to flow despite OPEC strictures or any other problems that may beset the desert kingdom in the future. "

That's an astounding claim. "unlimited supply"? What does that mean? Will the Chinese pay market prices? And Saudi Arabia isn't OPEC, it would be hard for SA to dictate terms outside of OPEC without causing a lot of additional thrash.

But understandably, Hal has a tough time of these days. He's been talking about the end of the world for nearly 40 years now (I remember reading The Late Great Planet Earth back in the 70's), so it's important to keep these news stories coming. Still I'd be interested in knowing what "news sources" he's referencing and what the terms of this "deal" are.

I don't think the Bible ever imagined modern warfare. A 200 million man army marching down the Euphrates would not be a 200 million man army for very long.

The China Daily has reported this. Lindsey is on it? Good for him! He has had so much right over the 30 ? Years it is too bad that a few missteps are used to taint his ministry imo.

However... I never could figure out the "why" of China fighting Israel as the Bible prophecy shares... Rofl. With each passing week more is revealed for understanding...I was floored when China and Russia began working together in the first place. Jesus is returning VERY soon!

I'm trying to imagine the logistical complexity of a 200 million man army making its way from China to the Middle East. That's not even possible. And while I don't fault the Bible's writers for not realizing that this would still be impossible 2000 years later, I don't think I can fault them for not understanding why this wouldn't work. A 200 million man army would be getting nuke after nuke dropped on its head. As it marched along bridges would be blown and its tanks would grind to a halt as their fuel ran out. The troops would starve. But let's imagine that all 200 million make it through. As soon as they hit open desert it becomes rapidly apparent that numbers are no match for maneuver and firepower in that environment.

This is a prophecy that will never be fulfilled in a literal way.

And by "kings of the East" it simply has to be China because it's east of the Middle East and it's important to keep your options open as to who the "kings of the East" are.

Because it would be, ummm, confirmatory of something supernatural if say John of Patmos had been given the actual name of the main players in the battle rather than metaphors and symbols and interpretable images.

I think it's ever so helpful to have a book in the bible which has all these amazing prophecies which even almost 2000 years later no one is really certain how to interpret them and they've been used to forecast the imminent end of the world for centuries, and there are some who think it was actually aimed at contemporaries of John of Patmos and might have been about the Roman Empire of the day!

What a great gift to humanity that we have such a dark glass to look through and see the future!

Selah!

The Bible says at this time 1/3 of the population will be killed - with all the middle east having nukes, that is very likely. I haven't heard any more about it, but I read that in Israel there was a huge oil field discovered - I'll have to find the resource, but it speaks about the heel of Jessie (I think) if that is the case - it would again be for oil. I'll go see if I can find it.

The 200 million man army will be in tanks. The Euphrates can be closed off and make it dry already.

Here is an interesting article on the oil. http://flashtrafficblog.wordpress.com/2010/08/18/1-5-billion-barrels-of-oil-discovered-in-israel/

Zion Oil (the company that has been looking for oil leveraging the "Heel of Jesse" point in the BIble). It was historically a pretty bad bet since they were having great difficulty finding any oil as they thought the Bible would lead them to find.

Interestingly enough Hal Lindsey has, himself, shilled for Zion Oil while he and his family have owned significant amounts of stock in the company!

Here's a screenshot of their stock price over the last year:

ZN_stock.jpg

Now trading for about $1.50/share. Seems to have dropped since 2011. If Zion Oil was rollin' in it I should think it would be somewhat better off.

As for you link, that appears to be related to the discovery of a possible reserve. And if you follow the link the actual story of the reserve's discovery you note the following part of the headline:

1.5 billion barrels of oil discovered near Rosh Ha'Ayin

Israeli public must wait until September to see if country is sitting on profitable oil reserve, but statement to TASE gives peek into extent of Megged reserve. Question remains: How much of it is recoverable?

I've taken the liberty to highlight the important bit. Later on the article it is estimated that only 10-20% of the oil is recoverable.

Now, granted that was from 2010 (the link your link linked to), but according to this Ha'aretz article from 2011 Meged 5 was producing a whopping 800 barrels a day. While the government of Israel is demanding that the company provide more info for investors. But it's still in testing. I liked this bit:

It has been known for many years that the Meged field contains oil. But the question over the last two decades and through five previous drillings was how to get the crude flowing fast enough for commercially viability. The latest numbers indicate that the production rate was low and that the company took steps to try to boost it. (SOURCE)

Not sure I'd hold my breath too much right now, wait and see. I wouldn't necessarily make my investing strategy based on Biblical prophecy however. But that's just me.

Countdown ≠ Happening Now

Did you read the book Mach? I read that thing about 5 times when it came out.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hal_Lindsey

"In a later book, entitled, The 1980s: Countdown to Armageddon, [19] he indicated that he believed it was possible that the battle of Armageddon could take place in the not too distant future, stating, "the decade of the 1980s could very well be the last decade of history as we know it." [20]. He noted again that there is no reference to the U.S. in bible prophecy. He listed a few scenarios that seemed plausible to him at the time: (1) A takeover by communists, (2) destruction by a surprise Soviet nuclear attack, or (3) becoming a dependent of the 10-nation European community.[21]. The book was on the NY Times bestseller list for over 20 weeks.

Planet Earth - 2000 A.D., published in the early 1990s, states that Christians should not plan to still be on earth by the year 2000.

Lindsey's earlier predictions all assumed that the Cold War would continue indefinitely, and had eschatological significance; he explicitly identified Russia with the apocalyptic figure of Gog. He also assumed that the 1960s counterculture would eventually become the dominant culture, and become the source of prophesied "immorality" that would lead to the establishment of a false religion.
