  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So what word would you suggest to describe a condition where a person is fully dead and not partly alive, since you don't like the term annihilate?

annihilate is the only word that has a strict definition of non existence in the end. destroy, and death don't mean the end of things. You however believe that the soul sleeps between death and resurrection. yet only to go to ahhihilation. But in psalms it says only the wicked go to the grave. So why would it say that?

Probably because the Psalmist believes that the people in their graves are dead, but he knows that the righteous will be resurrected to eternal life.

I don't accept your false definition that death actually means "to remain alive."

:doh:Indeed, now why would it say...Joh 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

So you think Jacob was wicked? Gen 37:35 And all his [Jacob's] sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down into the grave <H7585>unto my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him.

Do you think Christ, being buried in the grave for 3 days, was wicked too? 1Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Psa 22:26 The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.
29 All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul.

And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Rev 20:13-15

the only verse about the resurrection in the ot was in isaiah (800bc), which is 200 years after david (1000bc). He could not have known about the resurrection when He wrote this psalm. (unless it was by divine revelation) but I tend to believe it is simply a matter of fact that Sheol is more than the mere grave and that it also encompasses a real hell.

a second death is required so something must be alive after the first death.
Yes, don't forget about the resurrection on the last day.

1. First death
2. Resurrection (and judgement)
3. Second death (or eternal life for those in Christ)

Yes, after a dead person is resurrected they are alive again. They are not alive after they die UNTIL they are resurrected to life. But if they are not in Christ, they don't have eternal life. Unfortunately for them they must go to their second death.

U R Joking? Even Moses knew of the resurrection along with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and David and all the rest. Joh 5:46For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.
47But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
Indeed, now you know why it says...Joh 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

Have you never read what the psalmist wrote?
Psa 23:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Psa 23:2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
Psa 23:3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Psa 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Psa 23:5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Psa 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
Psa 22:26 The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.
29 All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul.

Psa 37:9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

18 The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.

20 But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.

28 For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.

29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.

34 Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it

Psa 149:4 For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.

5 Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds.

6Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a twoedged sword in their hand;

7 To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people;

8 To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron;

9 To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD.

Isa 11:4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

just because someone prophecies does not mean they fully comprehend that prophecy. Thats why interpretation is needed. Look at John on patmos, do you think He fully comprehended the Revelation and the imagery? No, I believe He was simply the conduit to which the revelation flowed. That was it.

Even John didn't understand the Apocalypse? Perhaps we all should not be relying on the Book of Revelation quite so much. If a doctrine can't be found in the other 65 books of the Bible, is it wise to dogmatically hold a view that may or may not be in the Book of Revelation?

:confused: And what does that have to do with the truth of the prophecy? And why do you not answer these scriptures that refute your fallacies of mistaken beliefs?

oh but the book of revelation has a key and it is daniel the prophet. So If you study both books you have a higher chance of understanding the symbology. And we are expected "to study to shew ourselves approved"
