  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

They do, though. The problem is that scientists are not educators and most teachers are not scientists. The information can be as free and accessible but it is useless if people don't understand it. There's also more to education than just science. Accessible science won't teach good english skills or an understanding of history.
And how does the #1 country -- whichever one it is -- handle this problem? by blaming it on religion?

Well, your government certainly wants you to learn, doesn't it?
As does yours. Education, especially in English, science, and mathematics, is vitally important for a nation to continue to flourish. If any of those three falter, the next generation will be woefully unequipped to deal with a very technological world, a world where knowledge is key. To paraphrase Carl Sagan (I think), we live in a world based on scientific knowledge, yet our society is almost entirely ignorant of science.

"A scientific man ought to have no wishes, no affections, -- a mere heart of stone."

- Charles Darwin

I'd say that's about right.

Romans 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

And, of course, some ended up becoming atheists:

Romans 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

No, no. That's not it. It was definitely a Germain guy. Rudolph Hilton? No that's not right. Alfred Hauser? No. Hmmm.
It was Thomas Malthus, chief -- as in the Malthusian principle.

No, it's not.

Malthusianism is concerned about population levels. The Nazis didn't care about population levels, they just wanted supremacy of their particular concept of race, which is a different end goal.

Neither are particularly highly-regarded in science.

As does yours.
We didn't riot in the streets though and go storm some senator's car, whose occupants had no idea what was going on.

(I can't find that picture, or I would post it.)

Oh, are you going to embarrass yourself again with your lack of understanding of UK politics? ^_^

Besides, doesn't the lack of rioting just back up the point more with regard to a lack of wanting to learn? If you don't care about something, you aren't going to protest about it.

See, here's the problem - don't claim that more successful countries aren't willing to help you when you whine about the advice that is freely given.

Not letting irrational non-experts near your state education programs would certainly be a step in the right direction for you. But hey, if you don't want to do that, not much can be done there.

Yes, it is.

No, as they are different kinds of statements about population with different rationales behind them.

That's right -- and what happens when the population starts to get too high, according to the principle?

It'll reduce. Not a totally unreasonable prediction.

What exactly is the problem here?

Neither did we - we don't have senators. Are you referring to when Prince Charles and Camilla were attacked in their car?

If so, I don't see what that has to do with the government wanting people to have an education.

Oh, I think we can fend for ourselves.

I just don't understand why these guys on top aren't sharing their knowledge with the guys on the bottom.

Yes, we're 24th, or 27th, or whatever -- but out of 173 (?).
