  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Kind of random thread, what's the deal with parents taking pics of their kid's butts?

I know, weird thread title. Anyway, my husband and I are expecting our first baby together. Which is awesome, because I wasn't entirely sure we were going to have kids together. I have a three year old son from my first marriage too. We are both super excited and our family is maybe even more so.

So my hub's youngest sister is a photographer. My husband wanted me to look at her portfolio to decide if we want to hire her for the kid's first pics. I did, and she's pretty good too especially with baby pictures. However, I noticed this huge plethora of naked baby pictures. Which i've never understood.

Now this isn't going to affect my decision to hire her or anything, it just gave my husband and I a laugh last night when talking about it. Especially this trend that seems to be going on where there are like close-up shots of a baby's butt. I don't get it. It's a butt, why do you want a picture of it? Poop comes out of there. What is the magic to capture in a butt? Every time I see a baby's butt all I can think about is the laundry list of things I have to do to it to keep it from smelling. Not "oh I have to take a picture of this."

I know. Random and kind of stupid post. But do you think kid's butts are cute? Do you feel the need to photograph them? Is this just a regional thing? It seems like all the parents in my area want butt pictures hanging up in their homes. Is this popular everywhere?

While I do think that my kids have all had the cutest little baby butts, I think I only have a pic of the oldest and it's a profile view, so you don't even really see his butt. I prefer them to have a diaper/diaper cover on - it's just as cute, IMO, and it saves them some embarrassment when they get older. ;)

Oh - and I'm totally with dreamer on the munchability of little pudgy baby bodies. :D

I don't know about specifically taking a picture of just the butt (which is the image that I get from the post), but taking a pic of the baby lying on his/her belly with the butt sticking out is not something I'm against. It's a cute pose.

Blasphemy!! What kind of mother are you?!?! :p

The kind that doesn't like butts?

I don't mind babies being naked or anything. Sometimes it is needed to kind of "air out" their behind when they have diaper rash or something similar. But then the whole time I am like praying "please don't let my kid crap on my carpet".

I am kind of a bizarre parent honestly. I hate cartoons and Pixar/Disney movies even more than I hate baby butts. I love kids, but I hate a lot of kid-related stuff. Like their butts. ^_^

Me too. Some adults love that kind of thing along with their child (or even without their child, which is even weirder) but I cannot bear it. When the kids want to see those kind of movies, their dad goes with them, while I do something 'adult'. (Like sleep!)

^_^ DD likes to run amok diaperless after her bath (she bathes in our bathroom and her bedroom is on the other side of the house. I'm always worried she's going to pee! But, the sight of her little chub-butt running through the house never fails to induce giggles - even out of my very manly (said in a deep voice :p) hubby. :D

My hubby could relate to the kid lover/non-fan of kid-related things mentality. He dreads family movie night b/c we never watch what he wants to watch. lol

Personally, and I would get killed for airing this in real life. I find most babies to be quite ugly when they are first born for at least the first two months. Their heads are misshapen, they are oftentimes a weird purplish color, and their bodies are not well proportioned. Once they're a little older the cuteness comes into play but in the beginning--oh my they look like aliens!

That being said, I think baby butts have the potential for being cute. But usually not in the beginning!
