CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I always find it fascinating that we human beings like to think that we are the pinnacle of creation. We think we know everything. And then there is an impossible scientific discovery that will change things a bit.
Although there is a lot more science behind the facts of the speed of the light, it is up there with the world being flat. It makes sense, we can't prove it wrong, and everyone believes what the smart thinkers are saying because we aren't smart enough to say otherwise.
When the speed of light changes, the world will be upset and then they will put their trust in the scientists that now understand everything with nothing outside their realm of understanding (until next time)
Christ never changes. Science does.

Which doesn't mean that we should not trust science or adopt a scientific understanding of the universe. Science may change, but it's always changing towards a more correct understanding of the universe.
As for this particular discovery, it needs to be verified independently. Very badly. It's far more likely it was a measuring mistake or something along those lines. If it can be verified though, then excellent.

I believe it is in the process of being verified by other scientists. Until then, it's neat to think this is so- but I'll just wait and see.

Speed of light won't change. That's been figured out. It hasn't been repeated yet, or confirmed, although, so far its stood up to every scrutiny. I read one article that said that this could potentially throw the last 100 years into chaos. There was a reason it is called THEORY of relativity.

I'm highly skeptical. It would be great if there really is some vast fundamental flaw in physics though, how exciting! There would be some outstanding science to follow such a discovery if it can be corroborated.

If it gets confirmed, I wouldn't bet on it destroying our current knowledge. As the article mentions, any explanation of why this occurs also has to account for why General Relativity worked as well as it did/does. That, and tachyons - because they aren't redefining the speed of light, as neutrinos aren't photons. And the margin of difference is 'technically' very small, although in practical terms it makes quite a good bit of difference because the speed of light is so fast (the example being the supernova observed in 1987: if the neutrinos from it where traveling at the speed these tests showed, they would have reached Earth several years before the light from the explosion did, even though the difference in speed from the speed of light was something like a fraction of a fraction of a fraction - you had to go all the way out to the millionths place to show it in decimal form, if I remember the article correctly).
I do wonder if maybe a suitable framework for explaining this will also lead to a better understanding and advancement of technology so as to make things like quantum computing feasibly consumption-level stable. Or some other wildly different discovery that this enables. The tough part will actually be conceptualizing the reasons why this occurs, and without something like unified theory or whatnot to bridge the gap that answer may be elusive for a while.
