  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Try learning what deism means, then rejoin the discussion.

It is amusing though watching diehard Christians endorse every religion under the sun, anything to avoid having to face that icky evolution.

True enough, they even denigrate the very concept of "faith" and "religion," just to try and gain parity with science!

Faith is believing something, even when science says otherwise.

Religion is the sum total of one's beliefs that cause him to act in faith.

So you've chosen to define faith as antithetical to science -- because in your myopic view, science is the only thing acting in opposition to faith.

That's right -- you gotta better definition?

I'm rather partial to "Something that is believed with strong conviction."

That way, you don't need to leech off of "science" to make yourself feel important -- you have a definition that stands on its own merits, and you don't need to tear anything else down to build yourself up.

Then you don't debate much, do you?

Your definition invites others to show up and say, "But science says..."

My definition [should put] a halt to that before it ever gets started.

But your definition is wrong.

Why are you trying to redefine a word that's already defined?

Faith is belief in something without evidence. That's it. If you believe something for which no evidence exists then you have faith.

and before people used logic and observation to understand the world?

Oh thats right, faith was used to shut out all of the bibles contradictions (and still is)

No, that's not it.

That allows for science to come along and claim: "There's evidence that says..."

Believe me, this definition comes from experience here.

When I first came here, people were claiming there was no evidence for a global flood.

When I started telling them to, "Keep looking", they switched their tactic to: "Evidence says there was no global flood."

My definition puts an end to all of that, and cuts right to the chase.

Not according to the KJV Bible.

Which is nonsense.

How does believing in something constitute as evidence for it's existence?

When you drive across a bridge, you are showing evidence of your faith in the unseen laws of the universe that say you can drive across that bridge w/o the bridge collapsing.

But science says what, AV?

My definition [should put] a halt to that before it ever gets started.

And as important as that makes you feel, it counts for absolutely nothing if it's not an accurate and comprehensive definition.

True enough, they even denigrate the very concept of "faith" and "religion," just to try and gain parity with science!

In your dreams!!! Where do you guys come up with this stuff?

Firstly, I only endorse Christianity!! Secondly, just because this world and probably some unbelievers posing as pseudo-christians, tried to put a definition to faith and religion (because they had no clue) and we might disagree with their definition does not mean that we in anyway try to denigrate the concepts of either and LAST of all to gain parity with science!!! Hello!!!

You are so blinded by your worship of science that you can't even see or hear for the matter what we are saying... Does the phrase "science can take a hike" sound ANYTHING like we want to gain parity with science.

You guys are so used to patting each other on the back and drooling all over yourselves that you have NO IDEA or CLUE that others standback and wonder just HOW you could not see the truth!! It is so clear!!

Here's a test to show you just where we stand with your views and so called science. Imagine this.... you are at 0 degrees and WAY over on the other side at 180 degrees is where we are... can you see that??? AND..... we DON'T .... that's a BIG DO NOT.... agree with nor WANT to agree with you on the science that does not agree with the BIBLE. We are not wishing or hoping that you can help us to see it better in any way.

The only ones who will do that are pseudo-christians or faux-chrisitians that are out there. They have no idea what faith, religion, God or Jesus is all about anyway. They build their religion on sand just as Jesus said because they do not do the things that He has told them. Science "so called" is part of that sandy ground and will someday crumble. ANYONE who bases their belief on science will fall with it. Kaboom!!

NO, NO, NO, we want no part of the devastation and destruction that inevitably will happen.

Our faith is built on nothing less than Jesus and HIS righteousness. On Christ the solid Rock we stand ALL other ground is sinking sand!!!

Yes -- faith should account for absolutely nothing.

When discussing creatio ex nihilo, for example, we see that God created the universe from absolutely no...

Oh, wait -- you said "counts" -- not "accounts".

 -- sorry.

sorry but those that understand science know what keeps the bridge from collapsing.

Works fine either way, AV -- you are a self-professed expert on "absolutely nothing," are you not?

I was just over at Wikipedia and it says there are over 38,000 Christian sects. Which one did you just endorse?

And what if Jesus was a myth?
