  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

They are a form of abortion, like pulling out.

What about the timing of sex...woman are more fertile a certain time of the month???.. would that be considered abortion too??

An abortion is only possible after conception. There's no baby to abort before that. :)

This is true. It is equally true that if a pill prevents ovulation it does not end the life of a baby nor does it abort a pregnancy.

It does interfere with God's design for men. It is man deciding that they know better than God and so acting on what man believes to be wisdom. Scripture says that God's foolishness is greater than man's wisdom.

Or men deciding that God has given them that choice to make that decision.
Or men deciding that they don't want to leave this part of their lives in God's
hands ... we all have choices to make.

But at the end of the day, All sects are doing it.
So if we are going to point the finger, we need to point it homeward too.
Which makes this thread downright silly! (other words I COULD use lol)

The deciding comes from those that choose to make and use "the pill" and not from those that keep doing what has always been done because it is as God willed from the beginning.

God is the author of Life, not man. ;)
You think man taking a pill or putting on a condom would keep a child from being born that God intended to be born?
God's a little bigger than that you know, Jack.

???

If a pill ends the life of a baby at or after conception then it aborts the pregnancy.

But your last source stated "There is no scientific evidence that hormonal methods of birth control can prevent a fertilized egg from implanting in the womb."

my point was that not having sex is not an act

Understood, but modern Catholicism is not Shakerism.

The new RCC position is NOT that married couples may not have sex (a sexless marriage; perpetual virgins all) - I guess that was once a common unofficial Catholic teaching but all that changed with the sexual revolution in the 1960's, your denomination now says that all couples MAY have sex (have - that means DOING it), in fact they may do it LOTS, they may do at least as much as any other couple, DO it! But, yes - now the RCC says this may be done contraceptively, they practice (do) birth control - in fact, the RCC will teach couples HOW to HAVE sex contra-ceptively. Practicing birth control. It may even require that you take the class in how to do it.

And this is a good point... but do you believe that Scripture suggests that
it's sin to make our own family planning decisions?
I thought God gave us that choice as we were made in HIS image ..
IOW, I thought that He gave us ALL authority over animals AND our body.

This isn't the new RCC position....

I understand from my Catholic teachers that BEFORE the sexual revolution of the 1960's there was a common but UNOFFICIAL teaching that couples should just have sex - and forget about any responsibility in that; just do it - and let God do with it whatever He desires. Have sex, trust God. Now, SOME said that if you didn't want more kids or should not have more kids - then have a sexless marriage (but this actually was never encouraged - except in very rare medical situations).

THAT WAS THEN, THIS IS NOW... Today, the RCC is the foremost religious promoter of contraceptive sex in the world, it fully embraces family planning - it even has classes in it, sometimes taught right there at the church, sometimes it even REQUIRES couples to take the class in how to practice this. It now says couples MAY have sex. Lots of sex. As much as any good Baptist or Lutheran or Pentecostal! Go for it! But if you want to PRACTICE family planning, this can be done contra-ceptively, in ways that will greatly reduce the changes of conception. It'll show you how. It may require that you learn how.

you are making the "pro-choice" argument?

But at the end of the day, All sects are doing it.

the Catholic Church doesn't believe that periodic abstinence is morally equivalent to having sex while trying to block the natural consequences of that sex

actually the Christian Church says it must not be done with a contraceptive mentality or with contraceptives

Well, I don't know that the Christian Church says anything about this, but your denomination now says sex CAN be done. Often! Go for it! BUT, it can be done contraceptively - in ways so as to decrease or increase the odds of conception, with "family planning" in mind. It will teach you how to DO this.

You seem to be under the misconception that the RCC now teaches that couples must practice abstinence, you seem to have Shakerism confused with modern Catholicism. No, it's position is not about being sexless, it's about HAVING sex... contraceptively if so desired (it may mandate you take a class on how to do this, even if you are embracing the older Catholic position of "just have sex - and forget about any responsibilities." No matter what, you may be required to take the RCC's class (perhaps taught right there at the parish) in how to DO sex contraceptively and PRACTIVE birth control.
