  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

God is fire and when He came into the world, and became man, He sent fire on the earth, as He Himself says; this fire turns about searching to find material — that is a disposition and an intention that is good — to fall into and to kindle; and for those in whom this fire will ignite, it becomes a great flame, which reaches Heaven. … [T]his flame at first purifies us from the pollution of passions and then it becomes in us food and drink and light and joy, and renders us light ourselves because we participate in His light.

--St. Symeon the New Theologian, Discourse 78

It is totally false to think that the sinners in hell are deprived of God’s love. Love is a child of the knowledge of truth, and is unquestionably given commonly to all. But love’s power acts in two ways: it torments sinners, while at the same time it delights those who have lived in accord with it.

--St. Isaac the Syrian, Homily 84

That doesn't answer my question - try again.

Too bad, I guess.

Nah, its quite clear to me, if that isn't enough to give you a clue, you can do your own research.
Planting nice seeds you are, I see.

Let me clarify, perhaps I didn't make my intent clear enough.

This is what razeontherock wrote, and what I was referring to:
"...if you can't learn to Love G-d here in this life, heaven would be torture for you."

That means, it IS possible to learn to love God here in this life.
But this possibility is, according to his reasoning, limited.

But why should it be? Why is it not possible to learn to love God in Heaven... or why shouldn't there be an eternal line of "this lifes" in order for you to learn?

Your quotes do nothing to answer these questions. They only repeat the assertion that it is so.

And the reason for that would be?

Give me just one concise reason why this process MUST be limited!

Can't understand that question. ETA: your later post clarified it. I call that an example of a reasonable question, not "questioning God" in the sense we have going on in the other thread, potter vs clay.

Answer also ties into another thread, about the flood. People read the 120 years wrong. G-d didn't limit people's lifespan to that; it was a ticking timebomb, w/ Judgment set to go off in 120 years from that time unless people repented. Which they did not. These are merely revelations we have, which still don't adequately address "why," IMHO.

I am quite familiar with the different versions of hell in Christianity, including the Orthodox one. However that had absolutely nothing to do with what I wrote. The hell would not be from loving god, but rather from knowing I sacrificed my ethics and took and bound myself to a tyrant to avoid suffering.

Secular politics builds more tyrants than religion does.

Secular politics builds more tyrants than religion does.

Tyrants are tyrants, they use whatever tools are at hand and work for them. It doesn't matter what the tools are.

Now it appears tyrants come in a large crowd movements wrapped in labels like "social justice."

You know, oddly enough, I don't find totalitarianism or fascism to be in step with "social justice". Could just be me. Then again, I don't buy into anything Glenn Beck says, so...

"Social justice" is marxist code. And it seems often is connected with some Christian hating group trying to rid from society any semblence of Christian infleunce.

Justice is decent morality applied the way a common free market loving American uses it.

BIG DIFFERENCE between the two.

Protip: When making stuff up, make sure that the real answer is not easily available.

Reality said:
The term and modern concept of "social justice" was coined by the Jesuit Luigi Taparelli in 1840 based on the teachings of St. Thomas Aquinas and given further exposure in 1848 by Antonio Rosmini-Serbati. The idea was elaborated by the moral theologian John A. Ryan, who initiated the concept of a living wage. Father Coughlin also used the term in his publications in the 1930s and the 1940s.

If you're going to lie, at least have the decency to try and make it an intelligent one.
