  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If you feel lost or alone--don't use the occult to try to feel better.

Crystal, this is what strikes me... becuase its true, ppl turn to this stuff when they are just desperate for answers, for love, money, etc.

My family situation is my granddad's mother was into voodoo and disowned my grandfather and cut him out of his inheritance becuase he married a Catholic.

My grandmother (the Catholic) told me she caught her in the act of putting a spell on my mother when she was a child.

I just recently found the will this woman made and in it she says, my granddad gets $1.00 for marrying a Catholic and "no more Catholics in my family, (names my grandmother) has nearly killed me..."

So I don't know what the deal is with my husbands family but they have "skeletons" in their closet as well. For me, it comes from both sides. His and mine.

Ironically my Mom grew up getting involved with occult things herself, saying he ability comes natural to her.

Sometimes I think my mission is to be the Catholic becuase on my side and my husband's side, all baptized Catholics- but yet no one practices and I think the spell was to rid the family of Catholics.

One of my sisters even left Catholicism and is anti Catholic.

Break that crap- refuse to believe it and pray for them and know the Lord is stronger than evil and voodoo crap.

Just say 'well compared to God, that aint nothing.'
And then pray with confidence.

Speaking of people who were involved in Voodoo-type behavior...
When I was a very young child, my babysitter was very into astrology and the stars. I was too young to know these things were bad for you, so I thought it was fine to use your horoscope and "look to the stars" for help with problems. It was after my experience with my babysitter that I began to have psychic abilities. After that, I started being able to know things before they happened and I often had dreams where something was happening while I was dreaming it. I never really allowed myself to develop any psychic abilities because I think I knew in the back of my mind that it was not a good thing to get involved with. Later, in my early teens, all my friends were using Ouija boards so I was exposed to that too.

I think what's going on with me is the result of me being surrounded most of my life by someone who was involved with the occult. And since I didn't have much understanding of the bible (in my early life) I had no idea how to deal with the situation. It all came to a head in the last 5 years or so. It got to the point where I had to make a huge effort to do something to stop this activity. I did so by going to church more, praying and reading the bible as much as possible.

And I also feel I must warn others so they won't dabble in this type of occult activity. I think most people are attacked in a subtle way because they can be tricked into thinking the bad situation is in no way created by Satan. That's how I find reading the bible helpful--it points out the different pitfalls people can run into and how to get help for that.

Yes, benedictaoo, I felt I must tell people that they should turn to the Lord when in trouble or feeling lonely. The occult is tempting because it sounds like an exciting or easy way out--but it's ultimately a destructive and scary nightmare.

Satan is called "liar", "accuser", "deceiver" and "tempter" because he uses these qualities to trick people into thinking he has the greatest power (or we as humans have the greatest power). I've found he can do this in subtle ways (like trying to get you to stay home from Mass or not to pray when you should) or it can be in obvious ways like I'm going through. Either way, God is always stronger than Satan or any of his demons. So, I always pray to God when faced with an demonic attack.

I went to Mass today and I feel so much better now. I know I can't just say "Oh, I feel fine now..." and stop. I have to continue on in prayer and Mass attendance in order to stay close to God. (Or at least watch Mass on EWTN if I'm too sick to go to my church.)
I hope things improve for you, benedictaoo!

I experienced something similar. I never dabbled with ouija boards or tarot cars (instinctively felt that they were messing with dark forces), but I was into new-agey things when I was a teen. I also had the ability to dream things before they happened and to predict the deaths of those close to me. When I took a renewed interest in my faith, I realised how wrong and errant I was and I prayed to God to take those things away from me if they were not from Him.

They left me.

The occult is very, very dangerous and should not be courted in any way, shape, or form. I know a few people who dabbled with it and experienced some very dark things.

I have had dreams since i was 10 - and throughout my life.
But it was when i was like 16 i used a ouija that one girl i knew had and i didnt specifically understand it, i was told it was just a game.
Then again my other friend's grandmother had one that she got when her gram died.

I got a pulling down feeling - completely horrible.

I wont touch the stuff - but having dreams since i was 10 - an innocent, i dont think it was because i did anything to cause the dreams. But mostly received messages in dreams from loved ones who passed.
I just wish i understood them b4 things came to pass, for real. And others were completely clear as to who would die at what time and i used this to go to them and talk to them about God OR say goodbyes ...

Well, the ones i dreamed of were goodbyes cos i knew they would be happy. Its the ones i feel compelled to go see who i talk to about God.
Thats the distinction.

And i dont usually understand a lot of them - until it occurs [symbolic ones]...like the dream of my dads death that i didnt realize til it happened.
I have to ponder it.

I did get attacked after the picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe was gone. Physically - and then nightmares... where satan tried to make me think he was Our Lady.
I could 'feel' him though so i got past it.

He was trying to make me think our Lady was evil. If nothing else - i sense things in my dreams ...

Healing Your Family Tree - Rev. John Hampsch, C.M.F.

Crystal, you may find this book helpful to you.

This is not anything doctrinal as far as teaching goes, its speculative and many in the Church discount it but its one of those things, you have to have it happen to you to know its true.

But the bottom line for us all is to live the Christian life to the end, preserve and not give up and keep focused on the Lord and don't yours your eyes off of Him.

Its not easy street and it isn't something where its ever over and you can relax. Jesus said those who persevere to the end will be saved.

Thanks for link, benedictaoo. I'll check it out.

I, also, think this is a test. I'm trying really hard to keep in mind the passage you posted, "Jesus said those who persevere to the end will be saved".
I know that as long as I stay close to the Lord, I'll be open to attack from Satan or his demons. It's just hard when you feel like you're in it by yourself--or even worse, people don't believe you. It's getting to where these things don't bother me as much. But, the devil is crafty. When he can't get at you one way, he finds another. But, God is good and He will protect you. I guess that's what the passage 1 Peter 5:7-9 is referring to when it says: Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are.

Yes bene, in a weird way, it's like the devil's been after me since day one. Because these things have been going on all my life--but, I didn't realize what it was. When my met my husband I had NO idea he was even remotely interested in the occult. I was married 13 years and it was probably at the very end (or after his passing) that I realized the depths of his involvement. (Although, he had one room in the attic that was locked and I was never allowed in there--that should of been my clue.)

When I found those drawings of the devil and other demons, I felt like I had been hit in the stomach. I was alone in a dark basement and the light started flicking, then these bugs rose from the floor and covered me from just above the knee down. I was covered like you see in those bee-keeper pictures. It was a solid covering of bugs. The whole bug thing started when I began throwing away my husband's old drawings, painting and books. But, the worst of it was when I got to the wooden wardrobe where he kept his most important papers. The closer I got to his drawings (over a few weeks of throwing things away) the more intense the bug problem got. At first it was just a few, so I sprayed bug spray. Then, the closer I got to the wooden wardrobe, the more intense the bug infestation became. It was unbelievable--no amount of bug spray had any effect on them. Had I not had a neighbor helping me, I would of thought I was going crazy. Every time we went over there to move or throw away stuff there were more bugs. (Although, it got pretty intense after the first few trips.) Finally his room-mate said he could no longer help me because he was afraid the bugs would go to his house.

So, I was facing this nightmare all alone. People would stand at the top of the stairs, going to the basement, get a look of fear on their faces and refuse to do down there. My mother wouldn't even go to that house anymore. She said she felt "something bad" was "guarding the basement door". (And she's a border-line atheist!) It was like this demon wanted me alone and totally under attack. The weirdest part was there was not one bug at my new house. I would be *covered* in these tiny, bugs (they kinda looked like fleas, but didn't fly), but by the time I got to my new house, they'd be gone. And the day I threw the drawing of Satan out, they TOTALLY vanished. I threw the drawing out, walked back in the house and there was not one bug--anywhere! (After just being covered in them.)

Anyway...what I did when I was all alone in the basement was to pray the Lord's Prayer over and over. Weird things still happened, but I wasn't as scared as before.

Thanks for listening. This is the only place I can really talk about this. I appreciate you reading my long posts.

God Bless,
C J

P.S. I wanted to add that I prayed the Lord's Prayer out-loud. In a firm voice, I said it again and again. I wanted what-ever was down there to hear it loud and clear!

Chrystal, thank God you had the strength to stay devout in the face of such horrors. I have never experienced anything so intense, but I have been assaulted by the evil one in dreams and I believe that I was visited as a child... strange memories...

Crystal, I began to read, "Healing you Family Tree" again and I really think it would help you tons to get this book.

and you talking about it and educating ppl is paramount. The bible says, our ignorance of these things is why we suffer. If we arm ourselves with this knowledge that this is how things are for the human race, we can prevent this from continuing on in our own familes.

In this book, part of the healing process is to ask for forgiveness on behalf of the deceased relative. Even if they are in hell, we still need to make a mends for what they did and repent for it to God. To have a Mass offered for this intention is the best way to go.

That person's salvation may be lost but we still have to atone for the sin in order to root it out. I do hold out hope that your husband in his final moment- God reached out and he took it.

But we still need to repent, we need to ask God for forgiveness for their sin, we give our own life to God and then God bestows the blessing to us, and our family.

We have to go to this place of darkness. We have to ask for forgiveness for whatever and who ever placed themselves against God.

Its not to save a dead person who may have damned themselves but its to save future generations becuase when someone places himself in the enemy's hands, he in fact puts a bullseye on the whole family.

I hope I am not ruffling any feathers here...I am not talking to anyone in particular, just making an observation.
Sometimes, attacks on ones faith comes from within the Christian community.
When ever a Christian or church attacks ones faith by telling a fellow Christian that they are not a TRUE Christian or a PROPER Christian, just because of differences in opinion on matters of faith, that is a DIRECT attack on one's personal faith. It only sows seeds of doubt, which Satan thrives on.
Sometimes, the most damaging attacks come not from outside the Christian faith, but from within.

Funny you mention that. I was just thinking about how, not long after my husband's death, I was at church and had the sudden need to pray for him. I asked God to forgive him for anything he may have done in his life. I've lit candles for him too. Thanks for book suggestion.

Thanks Gwendolyn. Things are much calmer now, although things still happen from time to time. (The TV still turns on and off by itself and doors still open on their own.) But, it's no-where near as bad as it was before. I also had demonic situations in my dreams. I had a dream where a disembodied face was floating in front of me. It was really scary looking. I told it to leave "in Jesus' name" and it laughed at me. So, I said it again (louder) and it exploded into a million pieces and disappeared.

I know as long as I try to learn and grow in the Lord, I may face these kinds of trials. I just have to remember that God is good and He will see me through it. (And keep praying, going to Mass, reading the bible.)

Thanks all for your kind words!
C J

I do WA. But I see the effects of ppl who don't take anything seriously.

I think the best I can hope for is at death, Jesus's saves them.
We ought to put blinders on and have confidence in our prayers.
Usually being so close to ppl we tend to have doubts... but the Lord hears all prayers and answers those with a holy will.
Our Lady will pray for this too because it is a holy will that leads to Christ.

We all tend to fear or doubt when we dont see immediate changes.

Good Saint to go to - St Pio.

Wow Chrystal that is scary. Bene as you said a lot of us need to thank God we do not experience any of these spiritual attacks. Some of us could not withstand such things...me specifically I'm afraid of my own shadow.

That doesn't mean we aren't being attacked in other ways.

The one I would say who isn't attacked is the one who has completely given him/herself over to sin.

But they will suffer in other ways, the consequences of their sin and so will the rest of the family and future generations as we have seen with Crystals story.

The bottom line is too many Catholics and too many Christians out there just doesn't believe/or get this but every single sin that is committed does not go with out consequence.

Even the sins we do out of ignorence carries a consequence.

The reality is Christ came and paid the hell the sin merits but the natural consequences will befall on who ever sins.

the suffering in your own family and in the world is all the result- the domino's effects of sin.

and the only choice anyone has to clean up their lives and have a relatively peaceful life as they possible can is to fully commit thier life to Christ- seriously and sincerely and to rid themselves of living a life that is characterized by sin and to root out the sinful attitudes and habits.

and when they do this, that is when the devil will attack.

No one thinks he's going to let you just walk out on him like that?

and this is what it is to be human living in the Vally of tears... the gravy life comes when Christ comes again. This life will never be gravy and the Saints knew this.

This is why we say, all the things in life we pursue is nothing. It matters nothing. The life God wants to give us is not what we think is the good life.
