I will go with your take on it that they did not know what interracial meant.

A long while back I saw a video on the net from some show on TV where these guys asked women to sign a petition to end woman's suffrage. Most signed it because they didn't know what it meant.

Just like most people don't know what democracy, socialism, communism or religion means. People have misused so many terms and words that people don't know up from down anymore.

I'm guessing a significant percentage misunderstood the question and/or simple doesn't know what "interracial" means and thinks the question was about gay marriage.

How were the interviews conducted?
Q17: "If you are 18 to 29 years old, press 1. If 30 to
45, press 2. If 46 to 65, press 3. If you are
older than 65, press 4."

That makes it sound like a robot just called you and started asking questions. So maybe no possibility to go "hey, could you repeat the last question I didn't hear it right.". Also, the respondents seem to be pretty skewed towards older people? 68% of respondents was older than 45.. I'm assuming that isn't the average in the US? That older people might still hold some of the views that were common in their youth isn't so surprising.

That people don't know what "interracial" or "suffrage" mean is more scary than a majority being in favor of repealing interracial marriage.

It was a poll of Republican primary voters in Mississippi who wanted to be polled.

So it's a majority of a minority of a minority of a majority of a southern state.

Republican primary voters are older and more conservative than average, and Mississippi voters are more conservative than average.

So, it shows we have come a long way in 50 years or so.

I'm having difficulty being surprised by this.

I would really want to know the race of the people polled. It would be foolhardy for people to assume that only white people would be against interracial marriage. I was friends with a black guy dating a Japanese girl who had to hide the relationship from his parents, because they were opposed to interracial relationships. With that said, if most people polled were white, I'm surprised coming from Mississippi, which has a higher black population than the national average.

Good thing God does not see color or race

Odd.. since God has long been the reason people were opposed to "interracial" marriage. I wonder we'll say God doesn't see 40 years from now?

I lived in MS for 15 years. I have no reason to doubt that the poll was not in any way misunderstood and in fact accurately reflects the views of deeply conservative, poorly educated, republicans. Why is everyone trying to void the results? Accept it and move on. Trying to deny it's validity speaks volumes for your sense of loyalty. Poor, ignorant southerners don't represent me and I don't feel a connection with them. I have lived over 90% of my life in the bible belt. My neighbors aren't the sharpest tools in the drawer.

P.S. Blayz, your country murders people for selling drugs. Don't look down your nose at the US.

Well it is not like being smart is well accepted in the United States.

When someone excels in education and intelligence they are labeled nerd or geek and ridiculed. If they are smart they are viewed as know it all, snobs, aloof, intelligentsia, elitists. Whereas wrestlers and sports stars can be dumb as posts and get idolized and paid millions of dollars. They are heroes and thrown parades and whole cities shut down over their exploits.

They didn't throw a parade for Jonas Salk. And they still wouldn't.

We just don't value the smart people so why should they know what words with more than two syllables mean.

That people don't know what "interracial" or "suffrage" mean is more scary than a majority being in favor of repealing interracial marriage.

Gender, sexual orientation. Then in 140 years? Species, age. 240? I don't even want to know.

Yes he does, and you don't even need to go back into the OT to see it, just ask Jesus:

Matthew 15:22-28
'22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.”
23 Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”
24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”
25 The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said.
26 He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”
27 “Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”
28 Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment."'

Apparently Canaanites are dogs compared to Jews in the eyes of Jesus.

The big issue we are missing here is the comparison with democrats. If the question is as badly written as everyone is saying, then the numbers should be similar, otherwise I would think this would show peoples true positions.

And from my experience with older republicans, I would not be surprised in the least if these poll numbers are true.

That's a very small sampling and could very well have a much larger margin of error. However, I'm not that surprised. There are still a lot of racist people in the deep south.

"Specifically to try to make a political point out of people's confused answers."

That.......and also to cover over the 63% of Democrats who agree with them........

Its your claim that 63% of democrats feel interracial marriage should be illegal? How about some facts to back it up.

The accusation that the polling was confusing or inaccurate seens to be based souly on people not liking what the result says.

Indeed. A question such as "Do you believe it's not wrong for interracial couples to marry" would be a poor question. That isn't the case.

I find it difficult to believe. I'm sure the numbers don't reflect genuinely the overall sentiments of MS GOP voters, but those numbers are staggaring.

Jesus was sent to return the Jews to being God's people (even though God knew He would be rejected, but that is a different issue).
