• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Kudos to the Hebrew Catholics...

I have to admit that the AHC has done some very good work lately. They have seriously stepped up to the plate for more than batting practice.

It would appeal to you, Heber. Some serious thought and questioning has gone into the role of the Jews and Israel in the Church in our day, and in particular mission and identity. There is currently becoming available some good thought-provoking lectures on these matters.

While they are intended to be easily digested by all, I think some of you that may be pondering the role of the Jews and Israel in the Church and the future in a matter more deeply that is currently presented on this forum, might find the intellectual stimulus that you have been seeking.

While I personally don't endorse everything anybody says (I'm not Roman Catholic) there are some insights worth checking out that add to the academic colour of this important topic.

Check out their website, and download some stuff.

"The glorious Messiah's coming is suspended at every moment of history until his recognition by 'all Israel.'
Catechism of the Catholic Church, par. 674.
Not even the first coming was suspended... so I seriously doubt the second one will be either.

Thanks CM - there is a lot to read via your links! I shall book mark the teachings from their conference and see what is buried there. I cannot pretend to know any of the names or recognise anyone in the pictures so it is hard to tell, at a glance, where they are coming from. It is good to know that believers of all persuasions are becoming interested in our movement.

I've got Bristow, Grudem, Wright (Tom), Kroeger, Dunn (J) and Payne to read at the moment. Sadly, much of the material deals with issues much wider than I shall be likely to use in any great depth but they do, at least, put some of those issues I'm looking at into perspective, and they provide more meat than the rather thin diet often found in internet fora.

Perhaps I should point out to other posters that I am not a Catholic, either, just to avoid any possible confusion.

Thanks for the info. I'll not be meeting the Uni Committee until July, possibly, with a view to commencing research in March 2012, at the latest (there are two starts points in the year); this gives time to get a better overview of the subject between now and the meeting.

Hebrew Catholics are beautiful people, Indeed...and I thank you for placing out the material to consider The Messianic Jews at Rosh Pina Project have been trying to address many of the issues with Hebrew Catholics, as seen here....and one of the blogs I've followed over the years has been really eye-opening, concerning those who are Hebrew Catholics and their unique role within the body of Yeshua...as seen here or here:

As there are differing aspects of the Catholic church--considering that there are Eastern Rite/Byzantine Catholics as well who are Hebrew Jews---the diversity of thought is rather fascinating...

I'd forgotten I wrote this way back - here's the update...

I didn't sign up to the MPhil - the supervisor I wanted was no longer available (he would have had a good understanding of the Messianic movement). I've signed up, instead, to an MA in Jewish Studies which will complement my previous Masters about Jews, Messianic Jews and Gentiles working together as one.

There exists an excellent resource at the Pontificia Universita Gregoriana - Judaic Studies, in Roma. Web site: www.unigre.it The Director of the Cardinal Bea Centre is Prof. Joseph Sievers. Master's Degrees are awarded or PG Diplomas. Italian language is needed to study there! The SIDIC library is a vast place to visit, if you can!

I was there in 2005 as part of my Sabbatical on a two week intensive course of studies on Jews in Rome in the 1st century - I assume not much has altered in real terms.

Many thanks for the resource, as its informative.

Was there anything in specific that you learned there which you didn't know before? Additionally, what is it that you were studying for---Master's, A PhD or something else?

I learned quite a bit about 1st century Rome and Jews - there's a great synagogue with integral museum nearby, too. I didn't spend the whole time at the Gregorian centre. Most of the time I was at the Waldensian Faculty, just off Via Cavour with CJCR of Cambridge, UK, as part of my Sabbatical studies. Did quite a lot of site-seeing too and I went back in 2008 with my youngest, as tourists, so she could see all that I saw in Rome. Didn't get a chance in 2008 to go to Ostia Antica, though, as I had done in 2005.

It was just an intensive 14 day Master's course.
