  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm not speaking for them, they'e speaking for themselves. Did you miss the fact that this article is from a gay site?

Didn't see your remark said on that cite, nor do I think the cite speaks for all Gay conservatives.

There are a lot of people who reasonably disagree with others without hyperbolic statements about the other position being a danger to America as you have done.

I could easily see why a Gay person would want second amendment rights though, which was referenced on that cite.

I could also easily find some gay cite that says the exact opposite and pretend that my feelings are theirs as you have done (were I so inclined).

The following:

While individual Tea Partyers may embrace a wide range of views on social issues, the movement has risen to power because it has formed around this very narrow range of principles most critical to the survival of our nation at this precise moment in history.

"The letter’s author Doug Mainwaring may not be a GayPatriot reader, but he sure does sound like one! :) Seems more and more of us freedom-loving gay folk are speaking out!"

was taken directly from the Tea Party leader's article and the conservative gay's comment on it. It is they who are making this point, dispite your effort to attribute it to just me.

You can try to marginalize these views if you want, but you are on the losing side of this issue.

"Don't even think about saying the GOP gets high support from homosexuals ..."

If you think that's what I'm saying, you haven't understood me - limited vision seems endemic to liberals -, or the conservatives on gaypatriot. We're saying that there are principles that transcend gay issues. Conservative gays, who actual think about matters of importance, rather than happily riding along on emotiions, understand that, and I do too. Apparently some liberals are still stuck in their comfortable, self-serving stereotypes.

Gosh, looky here! Liberals/Democrats aren't as popular as they think. Since you seem to be impressed by how most people feel about politics, this should be news for you, and you know what? Most people aren't liberal. Maybe those conservative gays are on to something. Ready to change your mind, since you're still letting voters speak for themselves?

Why would i change my mind when based on YOUR NUMBERS show the HIGH MARK of homosexual support for the GOP is 31%!!!

Also get your facts straight regarding me, i am a centrist, a moderate. So tossing the word "liberal" around is nothing more than far ring wing conservative desperation. Which is the main reason i can't support the right wing conservative GOP

I posted an article by a gay conservative. If you don't want to agree with him, fine, but he's right, he's the future, you're wrong, you're talking the talking points of the liberal past.

I'm not using any talking points. I'm simply using mathematics that every 4th grader probably knows.

You think the GOP getting 31% of the vote in one of the best years in modern history for the GOP is some how a sweeping victory for the GOP.

31%...

think about it before you reply....

Edit: And i mean actually think about it, if only homosexuals could vote that means Dems would probably win a minimum of 48 states with 2 swing states, and that would be a good year for the GOP.

Did you miss my earlier reply, the one showing that Republican/Conservative is larger percentage than Democrat/Liberal? I thought you put your confidence in numbers. Well?

Umm that is a lie

You posted polls with Conservative, Moderate and Liberal. There was nothing in that poll about Republicans or Democrats. Learn the difference if you want to play politics with the big boys

Big boys? Oh my!

If you want a reasonable discussion, OK, but not this nonsense.

If you can't handle the heat get out of the kitchen ehh? Smart move

A break down of who call themselves conservative, moderate or liberal has nothing to do with the anemic 31% of the vote the homosexual demographic gave the Republicans. Remember, this was 31% in a Republican year! In a year that wasn't 2010 i bet the homosexual vote for the GOP would be down into the mid 20s.

Are there more than 10% of Americans who wouldn't agree with "Fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government and free markets" in principle? Hell, I agree with that in principle, and I'm pretty far left, by US standards at least. It seems to me the Tea Party is a loose association of 35% libertarians and gay fiscal conservatives on one hand and 65% socially conservative Beck-watching Republicans who also happen to be fiscal conservatives on the other. I think they get along with each other for the time being because, lacking anybody in power, they didn't have to make any ideological choices yet, but they eventually will have to face this internal division.

In the meantime, libertarians will spread the freedom message to as many neoconservative teapartiers as possible! Our numbers are growing!

That's about as much good as I've come to expect from the tea party.

Are you trying to rachet p the heat on something that can't be rachetted up? I have no intention of getting "out of the kitchen."

You lberals are losing this discussion: did you miss the election of 2010?

Are you going to convince the conservative gays - a growing percentage - that they don't know their true interests? LOL good luck^_^

And conservative gays when I was coming of age in the 60s. Certainly not a new concept. But one that liberals still rant against and try to marginalize.
But liberals here have NOT ranted against them or tried to marginalize them. So far, most of us have simply acknowledged that yes, they exist and they are an expected minority within the LGBT community.

I think that kind of false statement - that liberals are ranting against gay conservatives - is just meant to goad.

You can always find a certain percentage of any minority who will vote against their own best interests. It is similar to Stockholm Syndrome or high school popularity contests. In the case of Gays and Lesbians there are about 25-30% for whom economic and security issues trump even their right to equality on their list of political priorities. Its not surprising then that they'll listen to any voice that promises Jobs and "Wars on terror", even if that voice insists on using the law to persecute them as the Republican party does. Illogical? Very, but who ever said the human race was logical?

Democrats dont seem to be pushing very strongly for gay rights right now either. The Economy is the major focus for most Americans and being a fiscal conservative is not anti gay. In 10 years I think gays will have equal rights in all areas no matter who is in office, it is wrong for them to be treated as second class citizens and I struggle to grasp why there is not more outcry against this.

Or because they recognize the REAL threat to America: Liberalism. Maybe you should face your own internal divisions and leave conservativism to those who understand it.
Lol. The 'real' threat to America. :D

Oh, but they have. This thread is not the only one containing comments on conservative gays.

It's not a false statement, and liberals need to be goaded about their ridiculous stereotypical thinking. They don't just get to frame issues in their own terms unchallenged.
