  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Great news for the Catholic church.

Never understood what was so "evil" about condoms in the first place.....
Condoms aren't evil in and of themselves.

Nearly any use for them, however, is intrinsically evil. Certainly the intended use is.

It comes down to the understanding that every sexual act must be open to life. This is because an essential purpose of the act is to procreate (the other is to unite a married couple; both purposes must be there.) So really any action intended to prevent pregnancy is an evil. It just so happens that that's what you use condoms for.

He's joking.

I do think he was on the money with that vortex just the same though.

Its the first one I have watched since he blew it by dissing Bishop Dolan and unfriending me on another board for telling him so. ;)

wait wait a minute, I thought god had a plan, so he knew we were going to use conterceptives and that no child would be born...because its his plan...he knows everything so he had to have some contigency for it.
But hey look at it this way, overpopulation problems and now there's conterceptives...see this is totally his work. Just please please let the younger generations know about safe sex...

well God is all powerful, but we still have free will free will to rebel agianst Him
contraception is very sinful, it goes agianst the natural order of things and is like homosexuality, the idea of "safe sex" promotes promiscuity and is a serious sin that can lead people to eternal hell fire

Tell that to the girl that has to take care of a baby at the age of fifteen. Abstience doesn't work, really it doesn't. Sure if you abstain you won't get pregnant but really how many abstain, let me tell you not a lot. I went to a school that taught abstience only, it took me years to finally realize how much they didn't tell me. Okay either God is all powerful or he can't affect us which is it?

teen age pregnancy is a real problem and promoting abstience will not deal with get rid of the problem totaly
but contraception does not seem to get rid of the problem either, even with contraception there are still a lot of pregnant teens
either they do not want to use birth control or they mess up or just the condom breaks or whatever

it is the belief of the Catholic Church that contraception is sinful, so not only does it not get rid of the problem totaly but it also hurts the souls of the people who use it

God is all powerful; however, he does not disrupt our free will neither does he usually interfere with the natural propagation process.

Secondally, I went to a School that "encouraged" abstinence as 100% effective, "BUT if you caaaannnn be abstinent, condoms/contraception are the 'next best thing.'" Ha, I've had some many folks tell me whenever I used to work at BK whenever I was Teenager, they say, "[My name], why am I pregnant" or " I think I am pregnant."

I'd always tell them: "If you'd stop having sex, you wouldn't get pregnant!"

no sex=no pregnancy. This is not rocket science.

The Pope still says condoms are intrinsically evil. What is happening is that people are taking words out of context and spreading rumors that are false. Contraceptives are still an evil and in this case of discussion the condom use is a lesser evil than killing someone. Nothing new here.

Nothing new here.

I wonder how far back the archives here goes. I and others said the same thing in the past the Pope is saying today and we told by certain quarters that we were heretics, dissenters, etc. I'm sure there is little chance of getting an apology from those.

But he never said a gay man can use a condom, that it is moral to do so...

He said, the fact that a prostitute who would use one in an attempt to not spread AIDS is a good that he is thinking of other ppl.

In no way he says it's moral. There is nothing moral about gay sex and there will never be anything moral about it. So why would he say using condom which is irrelevant to gays, be moral? that doesn't even make sense.

Y'all are twisting this worse then the media-- how come? It's not brain surgery- it's easy to comprehend.

I think we are archiving/removing threads over a year.

You could try a search and it may still be around. I know there are a few members at CF that revive very old threads for no apparent reason which means there is a possibility it is around still.

Bene is right, condom use is still an evil and not to be used as something approved. The example the Pope gave was one of a lesser evil where someone may be on the road to a better way of living though not there yet.
