America needs a Democratic Party with Americans like Zell Miller, David Boren, and yes, Joe Lieberman (an honest and honorable liberal). The Tea Party, properly and notably, rejects the establishment of both the big political parties. There is no reason why it cannot storm and occupy positions in the Democratic Party. There are many reasons why it should. When politicians seek votes and when most voters are conservative, then both parties can be pushed to compete for conservative votes, and if the context is played wisely, then conservative principles can prevail.

Term limits is the only thing that will save either party.

Term limits are not going to solve anyone's problem. The guys in office are corrupt, everyone agrees about this. The new guys, equally corrupt. The only difference that creating a 4 year or 8 year term limit will make is that we get to cycle though corrupt guys even faster.

In other words, right now, Joe Smith gets elected today and then he spends the next 16 years giving pork to various corporations. In the future, with term limits, Joe Smith gets elected, spend 8 years giving port to various corporations, and then in 2018, Jane Smith will be elected to give port to corporations for 8 years. I can assure you, corporations can find multi-million dollar positions for both Joe and Jane, after all, those guys gave them hundred-million dollar tax cuts, public contracts, or regulatory legislation that just so happens to be quite favorable to industries making widgets in China.

How about this proposal, remove money from the electoral process. Right now, half of our elected officials are millionaires, this is a demographic that represents 1% of the population. The rest of us, more than a little unrepresented and it is no wonder why they keep supporting tax cuts for themselves. Most of these people are not in power because they are brilliant, they are in their positions because they had the financial assets and personal connections to those who had even more in order to raise funding. Remove this from the equation and politicians suddenly can spend non-election years NOT campaigning for more money. How? A public fund that provides all parties that reach a certain signatory threshold to put them on a even level. It won't be much, a few million for state elections and maybe a hundred million or so for national elections. While this seems like a lot of money, it really is only a few bucks for each voter and it will provide a massive hit to pork barrel spending that adds up to the billions at Federal levels. Just think, Unions wont have even a fraction as much influence anymore in the Democratic party, that bailout of the UAW that cost billions may never have even happened.

Other proposals exist, some of them are to remove what essentially amounts to insider trading that exists thanks to the revolving door that exists between Government and industries, but the goal is more or less the same and they all will be implemented when the temperature of Hell goes negative on the Kelvin scale.

The TEA Party might save the Democratic party by splitting the Republican vote so that Democrats don't lose nearly as many seats as they should in November.

But the author's premise that most voters are conservative is laughable at best and just downright wrong.

Zell Miller is to the Democrat Party what Sarah Palin is to the Governor's Office of Alaska......
I've always found conservatives' admiration for Zell Miller to be curious. How can anyone admire a man who couldn't find the courage of his convictions until doing so had zero affect on his politcal standing or financial future? IMO, the man is a coward.

The biggest fallacy in the article:

Simply not true.

Yeah, keep dreaming!!:p

Independent Conservatives

"The vast majority of Americans, if asked, will tell you that they are “Independents” and that they are “Conservatives”. Obviously, they will define those terms in different ways, but Independent is perhaps the defining characteristic of the American citizen – or at least, it was for our first 150 years as a nation."

"The Democratic Party is the more honest of the two parties, because their platform today is blatantly Marxist in nature. A simple comparison of Karl Marx and the Democratic platform will reveal that to any honest student. Even though the Democratic Party was once filled with very conservative, anti-big government voters (who have been swindled by the Socialists and Utopians and Societal Engineers), it is ruled today a coalition of extremists of the radical lunatic fringe of the Left. They have no regard for the basic, instinctive conservatism of the blue-collar worker, the farmer, the working man they once claimed to represent."

"The Republican Party, on the other hand, has a very conservative platform, but the elected public rulers (who ought to be public servants) are totally unconcerned with the platform – they are there for one reason, and that is to rule. It’s all about POWER to the ruling elite of the Republican Party."
