The days of group discussions on Christian forums, (not just this one) gone? I think OBOB is the one exception but every other Christian group I go to it's as dead as a door nail. Has EVERYONE gone to facebook and twitter?

"ummm...I'm cooking supper."
"I just walked around the block."
"My kid lost his two front teeth."

Whoooooo cares?

ahhhh spiritually deep discussions...once upon a time. That days when CF was crowded.

what happened??? :sorry:

I don't like to do the facebook stuff either.

if CF were more crowded (i.e. obob) I think I could resist the temptation to go onto other stupid sites that I once AGAIN caved into

don't jump the gun guys I'm not saying it's any person's fault lol.

TAW is still pretty popular, I do not post there offten because I do not always feel welcome, a lot of nice EO posters but some are very rude
just like some of the Catholic posters here can be a lil over the top

oh well, yeah most of the denomination sub forums are dead
GT is meandering along
the singles subforum is active but the threads are not always that deep theologicaly
also a fair number of athiests in that subforum (and very unorthodox christians)

so what's the reason?

I'm not sure for everyone, but I know for some people it was the severity of moderating and the limiting of freedom of speech in so many posts, people feeling like they were stopped from many deep discussions and such. The Women's forum used to be one of the most active of the site, and I know a large group of the regulars listed this as their reason and left basically together, or else within a few months span, PMing each other about different destinations and announcing it around the boards. Some of them had been regulars here for years and haven't returned, this was last year sometime. Just my person opinion on why it may happen other places here too.

so what's the reason?

This forum is at least 10 years old, maybe more. It has changed many times over its existence by undergoing rule revamps, being passed to new owners, etc. Internet communities come and go. They ebb and flow. You may hang with the same people online, but where you hang can often change. That may change with the advent of sites like Facebook, but we will only know that in the future.

Basically, many people have left over the years because they find they have no reason to be here anymore, or they get banned, or others they know have left. Larger groups have also split away due to more dramatic events over the years as well.

The re-creation of this place as foru.ms apparently had a large backlash from the conservative members. Following that, changing back to CF had a large backlash from the liberal members. In more recent times, events like the CF Teens closure and the drama surrounding it led to a large segment of the forum breaking away. Funnily enough they splintered after they splintered and settled on a completely secular forum.

Then there are the groups of people who think there is a conspiracy on part of CF to actively silence them or otherwise ruin their e-life. This conspiracy is headed up by the liberal, conservative, gay-loving, gay-hating, tolerant, non-tolerant, too traditional, heretical CF administration. These groups pop up every so often on both sides of the liberal-conservative spectrum, and after getting themselves banned for actual rule violations they justify it via conspiracy theory and start their own forum. Sometimes those last, but not always.

Finally, there are the groups that has actively been run off these forums due to either unfair/inconsistent/slow moderation, being constantly harassed by other members, or an otherwise toxic online experience. This place is not perfect. It has problems. But at the same time, it is often not anywhere near as bad as some people make it out to be.
