  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That is awesome. I'm in Missouri now and there is only one Orthodox church in my town. I really wish I had more options. Of course, the church I really love is in Kansas City...but traveling 2 hours is out of the question.

I have a new baby now too. Well, not so new anymore. She is 10 months old already! Her name is Alexandria. =)

Congratulations!

I have to confess that I spent the last few years very confused and messing with the RCC. Thank God I never joined it!

I may visit here a bit, but I don't plan to venture out of "The Ancient Way", to argue or otherwise engage the non-Orthodox.

I am just savoring the blessedness of finally being back in a great little Orthodox church full of a great bunch of imperfect, repentant sinners who are all better people than I am.

I am so glad you found a great church. I totally understand how it feels to question and be unsure.

I pretty much stick to TAW too. I do confess to hopping over to OBOB from time to time...but only reply in fellowship type threads or non-church related threads.

Oh yeah...I'm back in school now too. Slowly but surely working on my bachelor's. I pretty much have all my generel ed requirements done and will start working on my art classes this coming Fall. I'll be majoring in Photography. It's nice to be heading toward a goal again.

Great! For me, making it through college was more a psychological battle than anything else. If I thought about all that I had left to do, I got discouraged, so I just took it day-by-day, assignment-by-assignment, class-by-class, semester-by-semester. Before I knew what hit me, I was done!

Regarding Christian Forums, I know once I get started reading the various threads, I will be strongly tempted to jump in with both feet, start arguing, and try to impress everyone.

That won't do me or anyone else any good, no matter how much I try to convince myself I am standing up for the truth.

Better for me to just palaver a bit and keep my mouth shut when controversy rears its sometimes-necessary head.

I could not even begin to tell you how many Orthodox Churches are in the Greater Pittsburgh area. Not only that, but there are 6 bishops in Pittsburgh.

Well, if I lived in a large city, I wouldn't be in this situation. But this is where I ended up, and I will be here at least until Kaylee graduates high school (in 2016!). After that, I am seriously thinking of moving either closer to KC or closer to St Louis. Probably KC, since I have family there. But then again, my life has been extremely unpredictable up to this point...so it wouldn't surprise me at all if I end up in Tokyo. ^_^

There is an Orthodox Church in Japan.

Pittsburgh is in this stretch ranging from NYC to Philly, over to Pittsburgh, up to Youngstown andCleveland, over to Toledo, up to Detroit, over to Chicago that has a TON of Orthodox in it. Thus if you live in that stretch of the country you won't have a hard time finding a church.

None of those places appeal to me. I would love to visit some of those though. Especially NYC. As much as I will complain about MO, the wide open farmland and fresh air feels like home to me. I also love the Ozark Mtns. The only other places that I feel such fondness for is the west coast of Florida and also the Carolinas and the coast of Georgia. I'm a southern girl 100%. I remember feeling so out of place when I lived up north in Milwaukee.

I can not give details, but although I am and always will be a Pittsburgher, I will soon become very much at home in Northern California.

My Chemistry prof is awesome. All I have to do is pass the final with a 70% or better and he won't count it against my grade unless it brings my grade UP. =) I have an A right now, sooo...Yay! It takes a ton of pressure off, so that I can spend a little extra study time for my Programming (C++) final instead.

I love professors like that, especially when they are upfront about your grades. I'm dealing with the opposite. I have a prof who hasn't handed back a single page of graded work the whole semester. He did the same thing last semester. I went the whole grading period not knowing where I stood in his class grade wise. I shouldn't complain though, he gave me an A last semester, and I've put in the same effort, so I'm expecting the same this semester. It's still kind of nerve-wracking not having tangible grades.

This is pretty interesting... the stats for our MP church:

The pledging members of Holy Trinity, 49% were born into the Orthodox Church/this parish; 27% emigrated to the U.S.; and 24% converted to Orthodoxy from another denomination.

That would drive me nuts! I confess to being a little obsessive over my grades. This Chemistry course is online (online lab as well!!), so it's pretty cool that I can pull my grades up immediately after a test, since for the most part the computer grades them. I went ahead and took the final last night (was up until 1am!) and passed with a 85%....which means my final grade for the course will stay at 92%. Yay! It was a tough course. Chemistry can be confusing anyways, but online was really a challenge.
